Allah is pleased with one who eats some food and praises Him for it, or drinks some drink and praises Him for it
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah is pleased with one who eats some food and praises Him for it, or drinks some drink and praises Him for it."
O boy, mention Allah's name, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is nearer to you
‘Umar ibn Abi Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was a young boy under the care of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), and my hand used to wander all over the platter (of food). The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O boy, mention Allah's name, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is nearer to you." Since then, I have been eating that way.
If anyone of you eats, let him eat with his right hand, and if he drinks, let him drink with his right hand, for indeed the devil eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand
Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If anyone of you eats, let him eat with his right hand, and if he drinks, let him drink with his right hand, for indeed the devil eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand."
None of you should hold his penis with his right hand while urinating, nor wipe himself after answering the call of nature using his right hand, nor breathe into the vessel
Abu Qatādah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "None of you should hold his penis with his right hand while urinating, nor wipe himself after answering the call of nature using his right hand, nor breathe into the vessel."
A man ate with his left hand in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), whereupon he said: "Eat with your right hand." The man said: I cannot do that. Thereupon, he said: "May you not be able to do that
Salamah ibn al-Akwa‘ (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man ate with his left hand in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), whereupon he said: "Eat with your right hand." The man said: I cannot do that. Thereupon, he said: "May you not be able to do that." It was only arrogance that prevented him. He said: He could not raise it up to his mouth afterward.
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) never found fault with any food. If he liked it, he would eat; and if he disliked it, he would leave it
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) never found fault with any food. If he liked it, he would eat; and if he disliked it, he would leave it.
I do not eat while reclining on my side
Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when he said to a man there: "I do not eat while reclining on my side."
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade breathing into the pot or blowing into it
Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade breathing into the pot or blowing into it.
When anyone of you eats food, let him not wipe his hand until he licks it or has it licked.
Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When anyone of you eats food, let him not wipe his hand until he licks it or has it licked."
Every drink that intoxicates is unlawful.
‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about mead, and he said: "Every drink that intoxicates is unlawful."
The prohibition of wine was revealed, which is made of five things: grapes, dates, honey, wheat, and barley.
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that ‘Umar, while standing on the Prophet's pulpit, said: "O people, the prohibition of wine was revealed, which is made of five things: grapes, dates, honey, wheat, and barley. Wine is anything that clouds the mind (i.e. intoxicates). There are three things that I wish the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) had left us something decisive to which we would refer: the grandfather (his share of inheritance), the Kalālah (one who leaves neither ascendants nor descendants), and some questions related to usury."
Verily, the devil can eat from any food upon which the Name of Allah is not mentioned
Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When we attended a meal with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), we would not extend our hands until the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would start and extend his hand. Once we attended a meal with him, and a little girl came in rushing as if she was being pushed forward. She was about to put her hand into the food when the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) caught her hand. Then a Bedouin came in rushing as if he was being pushed forward. He (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) caught his hand too. Then the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Verily, the devil can eat from any food upon which the Name of Allah is not mentioned. He (the devil) brought this little girl to be able to eat, but I caught her hand. Then he brought this Bedouin to be able to eat, but I caught his hand too. By the One in Whose Hand my soul is, his hand is in my grasp along with her hand."
If only he had mentioned the name of Allah, it would have been enough for all of you
‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: While the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was eating food with six of his Companions, a Bedouin came in and ate it up in two morsels. Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If only he had mentioned the name of Allah, it would have been enough for all of you."
Get together over your food and mention the name of Allah, so that it will be blessed for you
Wahshiyy ibn Harb (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: They said: O Messenger of Allah, we eat but we do not get satiated. He said: "Perhaps you eat separately." They said: Yes. He then said: "Get together over your food and mention the name of Allah, so that it will be blessed for you."
Do not take two at a time, for indeed the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade taking two at a time. Then he said: Unless one asks for his brother's permission
Jabalah ibn Suhaym reported: We were afflicted with a year of drought at the time of ‘Abdullāh ibn Az-Zubayr. We were provided with dates. ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to pass by us while we were eating and he would say: "Do not take two at a time, for indeed the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade taking two at a time." Then he said: "Unless one asks for his brother's permission."
This man followed us. If you wish, allow him to come in, and if you wish, he will go back
Abu Mas‘ūd Al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man invited the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) to a meal that he prepared for him and four others. A man followed them, and when he arrived at the door, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said (to the host): "This man followed us. If you wish, allow him to come in, and if you wish, he will go back." He (the host) said: "O Messenger of Allah, I admit him."
I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) eating with three fingers, and when he finished eating, he would lick them
Ka‘b ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) eating with three fingers, and when he finished eating, he would lick them.
One who serves people to drink should be the last to drink
Abu Qatādah al-Ansāri and Ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "One who serves people to drink should be the last to drink."
I gave the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) Zamzam water to drink and he drank while standing
Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I gave the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) Zamzam water to drink and he drank while standing." An-Nazzāl ibn Sabrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: ‘Ali(may Allah be pleased with him) came to Bāb Ar-Rahabah and drank while he was standing then said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) doing as what you saw me doing." ‘Amr ibn Shu‘ayb reported from his father, who reported from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) drink while standing and while sitting."
During the Prophet's lifetime, we would eat while walking and would drink while standing
Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: During the Prophet's lifetime, we would eat while walking and would drink while standing.
No one of you should drink while standing
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No one of you should drink while standing."
None of you should drink while standing, and whoever forgets, then let him induce vomit
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking while standing. Qatādah said: "We asked Anas: What about eating? He said: That is even worse - or more detestable." Another narration reads: "The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade drinking while standing." Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "None of you should drink while standing, and whoever forgets, then let him induce vomit."
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited drinking directly from the mouth of a waterskin
Abu Hurayrah and Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited drinking directly from the mouth of a waterskin.
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade turning the waterskins upside down and drinking from their mouths

that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited blowing in one's drink
Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited blowing in one's drink. A man said: “Sometimes, I see a speck in the vessel. What should I do then?” He replied: “Spill it.” Then the man said: “My thirst is not quenched with one draught.” He said: “Then remove the cup from your mouth (in between three gulps, and take a breath).”
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was given something to drink, so he drank from it, and there was a boy on his right
Sahl ibn Sa‘d (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was given something to drink, so he drank from it. There was a boy on his right and old men on his left. He said to the boy: "Do you allow me to give it to these?" The boy said: "No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah. I will not prefer anyone over myself with my share from you." So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) put it in his hand.
Whenever the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ate food, he would lick his three fingers
Anas ibn Mālik and Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that whenever the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ate food, he would lick his three fingers and he said: “If any of you drops a morsel of food, he should remove the dirt from it and eat it and not leave it to the devil." He ordered that the bowl should be scraped off, saying: "You do not know which part of your food contains the blessing.” The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, the devil is present with you in all of your affairs; he is even present with you when you are eating. So if any of you drops a morsel of food, he should remove the dirt from it and eat it and not leave it to the devil. When he finishes, he should lick his fingers, for he does not know which part of the food contains the blessing.”
Food for two persons suffices for three, and food for three persons suffices for four
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Food for two persons suffices for three, and food for three persons suffices for four." In Muslim's narration, Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Food for one person suffices for two, and food for two persons suffices for four, and food for four persons suffices for eight."
Cover the vessels, fasten the waterskins, close the doors, and extinguish the lamps, for, indeed, the devil does not loosen waterskins, nor open doors, nor uncover vessels
Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Cover the vessels, fasten the waterskins, close the doors, and extinguish the lamps, for, indeed, the devil does not loosen waterskins, nor open doors, nor uncover vessels. If one can find nothing to cover his vessel with other than a stick while mentioning the name of Allah, let him do so, because a mouse may set a house on fire with its inhabitants inside."
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) commanded licking the fingers and the dish (after eating), and he said: You do not know in which portion the blessing lies
Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) commanded licking the fingers and the dish (after eating), and he said: "You do not know in which portion the blessing lies." In another narration, he said: "When a morsel falls from any of you, he should pick it up and remove any dirt that is on it then eat it and not leave it to the devil. He should not wipe his hand with the napkin until he has licked his fingers, for he does not know in which portion of his food the blessing lies." In a third narration, he said: "Verily, the devil is present with you in all of your affairs. He is present when your meal is brought to you. So, if a morsel fell from any of you, then he should remove any dirt that is on it then eat it and not leave it to the devil.”
If one of you is invited to a wedding banquet, he should attend
Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If one of you is invited to a wedding banquet, he should attend.”
The worst food is the food of a wedding banquet to which the rich are invited while the poor are left out. Anyone who does not answer the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him)
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: "The worst food is the food of a wedding banquet to which the rich are invited while the poor are left out. Anyone who does not answer the invitation has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him)."
Blessing descends in the middle of the food. So eat from the sides, and do not eat from the middle
Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Blessing descends in the middle of the food. So eat from the sides, and do not eat from the middle."
هذا من النعيم الذي تسألون عنه
عن جابر قال: أتاني النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وأبو بكر وعمر، فأطعمتهم رطبًا، وأسقيتهم ماءً، فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: "هذا من النعيم الذي تسألون عنه".
إن له دسمًا
عن ابن عباس أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم شرب لبنًا فمضمض، وقال: «إن له دسمًا».
إذا دُعِيَ أحدكم إلى طعام فليُجِبْ، فإن شاء طَعِم، وإن شاء ترك
عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى طَعَامٍ فَلْيُجِبْ، فَإِنْ شَاءَ طَعِمَ، وَإِنْ شَاءَ تَرَكَ».
لا تأكلوا بالشمال، فإن الشيطان يأكل بالشمال
عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَا تَأْكُلُوا بِالشِّمَالِ، فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَأْكُلُ بِالشِّمَالِ».
إذا أكل أحدكم فليذكر اسم الله، فإن نسي أن يذكر اسم الله في أوله فليقل: باسم الله أوله وآخره
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَذْكُرِ اسْمَ اللَّهِ، فَإِنْ نَسِيَ أَنْ يَذْكُرَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ فِي أَوَّلِهِ فَلْيَقُلْ: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ».
المؤمن يأكل في معى واحد، والكافر يأكل في سبعة أمعاء
عَنْ نَافِعٍ قَالَ: كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ لاَ يَأْكُلُ حَتَّى يُؤْتَى بِمِسْكِينٍ يَأْكُلُ مَعَهُ، فَأَدْخَلْتُ رَجُلًا يَأْكُلُ مَعَهُ، فَأَكَلَ كَثِيرًا، فَقَالَ: يَا نَافِعُ، لاَ تُدْخِلْ هَذَا عَلَيَّ، سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «المُؤْمِنُ يَأْكُلُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ، وَالكَافِرُ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ».
الحمد لله الذي أطعم وسقى وسوغه وجعل له مخرجًا
عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَكَلَ أَوْ شَرِبَ قَالَ: «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَ وَسَقَى وَسَوَّغَهُ وَجَعَلَ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا».
أن جارًا لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فارسيًّا كان طيبَ المَرَق
عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ جَارًا لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَارِسِيًّا كَانَ طَيِّبَ الْمَرَقِ، فَصَنَعَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ يَدْعُوهُ، فَقَالَ: «وَهَذِهِ؟» لِعَائِشَةَ، فَقَالَ: لَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا»، فَعَادَ يَدْعُوهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «وَهَذِهِ؟»، قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا»، ثُمَّ عَادَ يَدْعُوهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «وَهَذِهِ؟»، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فِي الثَّالِثَةِ، فَقَامَا يَتَدَافَعَانِ حَتَّى أَتَيَا مَنْزِلَهُ.
اللهم بارك لهم في ما رزقتهم، واغفر لهم وارحمهم
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُسْرٍ قَالَ: نَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى أَبِي، قَالَ: فَقَرَّبْنَا إِلَيْهِ طَعَامًا وَوَطْبَةً، فَأَكَلَ مِنْهَا، ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِتَمْرٍ فَكَانَ يَأْكُلُهُ وَيُلْقِي النَّوَى بَيْنَ إِصْبَعَيْهِ، وَيَجْمَعُ السَّبَّابَةَ وَالْوُسْطَى -قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: هُوَ ظَنِّي وَهُوَ فِيهِ إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ إِلْقَاءُ النَّوَى بَيْنَ الْإِصْبَعَيْنِ- ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِشَرَابٍ فَشَرِبَهُ، ثُمَّ نَاوَلَهُ الَّذِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ أَبِي: وَأَخَذَ بِلِجَامِ دَابَّتِهِ، ادْعُ اللهَ لَنَا، فَقَالَ: «اللهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِي مَا رَزَقْتَهُمْ، وَاغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَارْحَمْهُمْ».
فلم أزل أحب الدباء من يومئذ
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ خَيَّاطًا دَعَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِطَعَامٍ صَنَعَهُ، قَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ: فَذَهَبْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى ذَلِكَ الطَّعَامِ، فَقَرَّبَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خُبْزًا وَمَرَقًا، فِيهِ دُبَّاءٌ وَقَدِيدٌ، فَرَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَتَبَّعُ الدُّبَّاءَ مِنْ حَوَالَيِ القَصْعَةِ، قَالَ: فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أُحِبُّ الدُّبَّاءَ مِنْ يَوْمِئِذٍ.
مَن نام وفي يده غَمْرٌ ولم يغسله فأصابه شيء فلا يلومَنَّ إلا نفسه
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ نَامَ وَفِي يَدِهِ غَمَرٌ وَلَمْ يَغْسِلْهُ فَأَصَابَهُ شَيْءٌ فَلَا يَلُومَنَّ إِلَّا نَفْسَهُ».
إن ناسًا يكرهون الشرب قائمًا، وإن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم صنع مثل ما صنعت
عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ، ثُمَّ قَعَدَ فِي حَوَائِجِ النَّاسِ فِي رَحَبَةِ الكُوفَةِ، حَتَّى حَضَرَتْ صَلاَةُ العَصْرِ، ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِمَاءٍ، فَشَرِبَ وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَيَدَيْهِ، وَذَكَرَ رَأْسَهُ وَرِجْلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَشَرِبَ فَضْلَهُ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنَّ نَاسًا يَكْرَهُونَ الشُّرْبَ قِيَامًا، وَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَنَعَ مِثْلَ مَا صَنَعْتُ.
أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم دخل عليها وعندها قِرْبةٌ معلَّقةٌ
عَنْ كَبْشَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا وَعِنْدَهَا قِرْبَةٌ مُعَلَّقَةٌ، فَشَرِبَ مِنْهَا وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ، فَقَطَعَتْ فَمَ الْقِرْبَةِ؛ تَبْتَغِي بَرَكَةَ مَوْضِعِ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
ألَّا خمرتَه، ولو تعرُض عليه عودًا
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَاسْتَسْقَى، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَلَا نَسْقِيكَ نَبِيذًا؟ فَقَالَ: «بَلَى»، قَالَ: فَخَرَجَ الرَّجُلُ يَسْعَى، فَجَاءَ بِقَدَحٍ فِيهِ نَبِيذٌ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَلَّا خَمَّرْتَهُ وَلَوْ تَعْرُضُ عَلَيْهِ عُودًا»، قَالَ: فَشَرِبَ.
غطوا الإناء وأَوكوا السِّقَاء
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «غَطُّوا الْإِنَاءَ، وَأَوْكُوا السِّقَاءَ، فَإِنَّ فِي السَّنَةِ لَيْلَةً يَنْزِلُ فِيهَا وَبَاءٌ، لَا يَمُرُّ بِإِنَاءٍ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ غِطَاءٌ، أَوْ سِقَاءٍ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ وِكَاءٌ، إِلَّا نَزَلَ فِيهِ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْوَبَاءِ».
ألله الذي لا إله إلا هو إن كنت لَأَعتمد بكبدي على الأرض من الجوع
عَنْ أَبي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: أَللَّهِ الَّذِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ إِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَعْتَمِدُ بِكَبِدِي عَلَى الأَرْضِ مِنَ الجُوعِ، وَإِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَشُدُّ الحَجَرَ عَلَى بَطْنِي مِنَ الجُوعِ، وَلَقَدْ قَعَدْتُ يَوْمًا عَلَى طَرِيقِهِمُ الَّذِي يَخْرُجُونَ مِنْهُ، فَمَرَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ آيَةٍ مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ، مَا سَأَلْتُهُ إِلَّا لِيُشْبِعَنِي، فَمَرَّ وَلَمْ يَفْعَلْ، ثُمَّ مَرَّ بِي عُمَرُ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ آيَةٍ مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ، مَا سَأَلْتُهُ إِلَّا لِيُشْبِعَنِي، فَمَرَّ فَلَمْ يَفْعَلْ، ثُمَّ مَرَّ بِي أَبُو القَاسِمِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَتَبَسَّمَ حِينَ رَآنِي، وَعَرَفَ مَا فِي نَفْسِي وَمَا فِي وَجْهِي، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «يَا أَبَا هِرٍّ» قُلْتُ: لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «الْحَقْ» وَمَضَى فَتَبِعْتُهُ، فَدَخَلَ، فَاسْتَأْذَنَ، فَأُذِنَ لِي، فَدَخَلَ، فَوَجَدَ لَبَنًا فِي قَدَحٍ، فَقَالَ: «مِنْ أَيْنَ هَذَا اللَّبَنُ؟» قَالُوا: أَهْدَاهُ لَكَ فُلاَنٌ أَوْ فُلاَنَةُ، قَالَ: «أَبَا هِرٍّ» قُلْتُ: لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «الْحَقْ إِلَى أَهْلِ الصُّفَّةِ، فَادْعُهُمْ لِي» قَالَ: وَأَهْلُ الصُّفَّةِ أَضْيَافُ الإِسْلَامِ، لَا يَأْوُونَ إِلَى أَهْلٍ وَلَا مَالٍ وَلَا عَلَى أَحَدٍ، إِذَا أَتَتْهُ صَدَقَةٌ بَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَمْ يَتَنَاوَلْ مِنْهَا شَيْئًا، وَإِذَا أَتَتْهُ هَدِيَّةٌ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِمْ، وَأَصَابَ مِنْهَا وَأَشْرَكَهُمْ فِيهَا، فَسَاءَنِي ذَلِكَ، فَقُلْتُ: وَمَا هَذَا اللَّبَنُ فِي أَهْلِ الصُّفَّةِ، كُنْتُ أَحَقُّ أَنَا أَنْ أُصِيبَ مِنْ هَذَا اللَّبَنِ شَرْبَةً أَتَقَوَّى بِهَا، فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَمَرَنِي، فَكُنْتُ أَنَا أُعْطِيهِمْ، وَمَا عَسَى أَنْ يَبْلُغَنِي مِنْ هَذَا اللَّبَنِ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ مِنْ طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ وَطَاعَةِ رَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بُدٌّ، فَأَتَيْتُهُمْ فَدَعَوْتُهُمْ فَأَقْبَلُوا، فَاسْتَأْذَنُوا فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ، وَأَخَذُوا مَجَالِسَهُمْ مِنَ البَيْتِ، قَالَ: «يَا أَبَا هِرٍّ» قُلْتُ: لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «خُذْ فَأَعْطِهِمْ» قَالَ: فَأَخَذْتُ القَدَحَ، فَجَعَلْتُ أُعْطِيهِ الرَّجُلَ فَيَشْرَبُ حَتَّى يَرْوَى، ثُمَّ يَرُدُّ عَلَيَّ القَدَحَ، فَأُعْطِيهِ الرَّجُلَ فَيَشْرَبُ حَتَّى يَرْوَى، ثُمَّ يَرُدُّ عَلَيَّ القَدَحَ فَيَشْرَبُ حَتَّى يَرْوَى، ثُمَّ يَرُدُّ عَلَيَّ القَدَحَ، حَتَّى انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ رَوِيَ القَوْمُ كُلُّهُمْ، فَأَخَذَ القَدَحَ فَوَضَعَهُ عَلَى يَدِهِ، فَنَظَرَ إِلَيَّ فَتَبَسَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «أَبَا هِرٍّ» قُلْتُ: لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «بَقِيتُ أَنَا وَأَنْتَ» قُلْتُ: صَدَقْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: «اقْعُدْ فَاشْرَبْ» فَقَعَدْتُ فَشَرِبْتُ، فَقَالَ: «اشْرَبْ» فَشَرِبْتُ، فَمَا زَالَ يَقُولُ: «اشْرَبْ» حَتَّى قُلْتُ: لَا وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالحَقِّ، مَا أَجِدُ لَهُ مَسْلَكًا، قَالَ: «فَأَرِنِي» فَأَعْطَيْتُهُ القَدَحَ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَسَمَّى وَشَرِبَ الفَضْلَةَ.
اللهم أطعم من أطعمني وأسق من أسقاني
عَنِ الْمِقْدَادِ قَالَ: أَقْبَلْتُ أَنَا وَصَاحِبَانِ لِي، وَقَدْ ذَهَبَتْ أَسْمَاعُنَا وَأَبْصَارُنَا مِنَ الْجَهْدِ، فَجَعَلْنَا نَعْرِضُ أَنْفُسَنَا عَلَى أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ يَقْبَلُنَا، فَأَتَيْنَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَانْطَلَقَ بِنَا إِلَى أَهْلِهِ، فَإِذَا ثَلَاثَةُ أَعْنُزٍ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «احْتَلِبُوا هَذَا اللَّبَنَ بَيْنَنَا»، قَالَ: فَكُنَّا نَحْتَلِبُ فَيَشْرَبُ كُلُّ إِنْسَانٍ مِنَّا نَصِيبَهُ، وَنَرْفَعُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَصِيبَهُ، قَالَ: فَيَجِيءُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَيُسَلِّمُ تَسْلِيمًا لَا يُوقِظُ نَائِمًا، وَيُسْمِعُ الْيَقْظَانَ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ يَأْتِي الْمَسْجِدَ فَيُصَلِّي، ثُمَّ يَأْتِي شَرَابَهُ فَيَشْرَبُ، فَأَتَانِي الشَّيْطَانُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ وَقَدْ شَرِبْتُ نَصِيبِي، فَقَالَ: مُحَمَّدٌ يَأْتِي الْأَنْصَارَ فَيُتْحِفُونَهُ، وَيُصِيبُ عِنْدَهُمْ، مَا بِهِ حَاجَةٌ إِلَى هَذِهِ الْجَرْعَةِ، فَأَتَيْتُهَا فَشَرِبْتُهَا، فَلَمَّا أَنْ وَغَلَتْ فِي بَطْنِي، وَعَلِمْتُ أَنَّهُ لَيْسَ إِلَيْهَا سَبِيلٌ، قَالَ: نَدَّمَنِي الشَّيْطَانُ، فَقَالَ: وَيْحَكَ، مَا صَنَعْتَ أَشَرِبْتَ شَرَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ، فَيَجِيءُ فَلَا يَجِدُهُ فَيَدْعُو عَلَيْكَ فَتَهْلِكُ فَتَذْهَبُ دُنْيَاكَ وَآخِرَتُكَ، وَعَلَيَّ شَمْلَةٌ إِذَا وَضَعْتُهَا عَلَى قَدَمَيَّ خَرَجَ رَأْسِي، وَإِذَا وَضَعْتُهَا عَلَى رَأْسِي خَرَجَ قَدَمَايَ، وَجَعَلَ لَا يَجِيئُنِي النَّوْمُ، وَأَمَّا صَاحِبَايَ فَنَامَا وَلَمْ يَصْنَعَا مَا صَنَعْتُ، قَالَ: فَجَاءَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَسَلَّمَ كَمَا كَانَ يُسَلِّمُ، ثُمَّ أَتَى الْمَسْجِدَ فَصَلَّى، ثُمَّ أَتَى شَرَابَهُ فَكَشَفَ عَنْهُ، فَلَمْ يَجِدْ فِيهِ شَيْئًا، فَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ، فَقُلْتُ: الْآنَ يَدْعُو عَلَيَّ فَأَهْلِكُ، فَقَالَ: «اللهُمَّ أَطْعِمْ مَنْ أَطْعَمَنِي، وَأَسْقِ مَنْ أَسْقَانِي»، قَالَ: فَعَمَدْتُ إِلَى الشَّمْلَةِ فَشَدَدْتُهَا عَلَيَّ، وَأَخَذْتُ الشَّفْرَةَ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ إِلَى الْأَعْنُزِ أَيُّهَا أَسْمَنُ، فَأَذْبَحُهَا لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَإِذَا هِيَ حَافِلَةٌ، وَإِذَا هُنَّ حُفَّلٌ كُلُّهُنَّ، فَعَمَدْتُ إِلَى إِنَاءٍ لِآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا كَانُوا يَطْمَعُونَ أَنْ يَحْتَلِبُوا فِيهِ، قَالَ: فَحَلَبْتُ فِيهِ حَتَّى عَلَتْهُ رَغْوَةٌ، فَجِئْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «أَشَرِبْتُمْ شَرَابَكُمُ اللَّيْلَةَ»، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اشْرَبْ، فَشَرِبَ، ثُمَّ نَاوَلَنِي، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اشْرَبْ، فَشَرِبَ، ثُمَّ نَاوَلَنِي، فَلَمَّا عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ رَوِيَ وَأَصَبْتُ دَعْوَتَهُ، ضَحِكْتُ حَتَّى أُلْقِيتُ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِحْدَى سَوْآتِكَ يَا مِقْدَادُ»، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِي كَذَا وَكَذَا وَفَعَلْتُ كَذَا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا هَذِهِ إِلَّا رَحْمَةٌ مِنَ اللهِ، أَفَلَا كُنْتَ آذَنْتَنِي فَنُوقِظَ صَاحِبَيْنَا فَيُصِيبَانِ مِنْهَا»، قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ مَا أُبَالِي إِذَا أَصَبْتَهَا وَأَصَبْتُهَا مَعَكَ مَنْ أَصَابَهَا مِنَ النَّاسِ.
I was with Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) in the company of some Magians when a sweet was brought in a silver vessel, and Anas did not eat from it
Anas ibn Sirīn reported: I was with Anas ibn Mālik(may Allah be pleased with him) in the company of some Magians when a sweet was brought in a silver vessel, and Anas did not eat from it. The man was told to change the vessel, and he replaced it with a wooden bowl and brought it. Thereupon, he ate from it.
Raisins used to be soaked for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) in a water skin, and he would drink it that day, the next day, and the following day. In the evening of the third day, he would drink it and give some to others. If anything was left, he would spill it
Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Raisins used to be soaked for the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) in a water skin, and he would drink it that day, the next day, and the following day. إذا أكل أحدكم فليأكل بيمينه، وإذا شرب فليشرب بيمينه، فإن الشيطان يأكل بشماله، ويشرب بشماله
عن عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما مرفوعاً: «إذا أكل أحدكم فليأكل بيمينه، وإذا شرب فليشرب بيمينه، فإن الشيطان يأكل بشماله، ويشرب بشماله».
