Leave them, for I had put them on when they were in the state of purity
Al-Mughīrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Once I was in the company of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey and I bent down to take off his leather socks, but he said: "Leave them, for I had put them on when they were in the state of purity." So, he wiped over them.
When three people set out on a journey, they should appoint one of them as their leader
Abu Sa‘īd and Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When three people set out on a journey, they should appoint one of them as their leader."
Do not enter the dwellings of those who have wronged themselves, unless you are weeping
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: We passed with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) by Al-Hijr, and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: "Do not enter the dwellings of those who have wronged themselves, unless you are weeping, lest what befell them should befall you." Then he urged and hastened, leaving it behind.
I entrust Allah with your religion, your trusts, and your last deeds
When a man was to set out on a journey, ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would say to him: "Draw near to me so that I may bid you farewell as the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to bid us farewell. He would say: 'I entrust Allah with your religion, your trusts, and your last deeds.'" ‘Abdullāh ibn Yazīd al-Khatmi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) would bid farewell to the departing army by saying: "I entrust Allah with your religion, your trusts, and your last deeds."
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer voluntary prayer on the back of his riding beast (camel), whatever direction it went. He would nod his head. Ibn ‘Umar would do so as well

A version by Muslim adds: "But he did not offer the obligatory prayer on top of it." A version by Al-Bukhāri states: "…except for the obligatory prayers."
Travel is a portion of torment
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Travel is a portion of torment. It prevents you from eating, drinking and sleeping. When one of you has achieved his purpose from his journey, let him hasten back to his family."
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) forbade traveling with the Qur’an to the land of enemies

While we were on a journey with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) a man came while riding a mount of his
Abu Sa‘īd al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: While we were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) a man came while riding a mount of his, and he began to look on the right and left. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who has an extra mount should hand it over to one who has no mount, and the one who possesses surplus provision should give it to the one who has no provision." He named various kinds of properties until we began to think that none of us had any right to anything surplus.
When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) traveled, he would seek refuge from the hardships of the journey, from having a change of heart, adverse conditions replacing good ones, the prayer of an oppressed person, and from seeing a misfortune occurring to his family and wealth
‘Abdullāh ibn Sarjis (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) traveled, he would seek refuge [in Allah] from the hardships of the journey, from having a change of heart, adverse conditions replacing good ones, the prayer of an oppressed person, and from seeing a misfortune occurring to his family and wealth.
The lonely rider is a devil, two riders are two devils and three are a traveling team
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Amr Ibn al-‘Ās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The lonely rider is a devil, two riders are two devils and three are a traveling team.”
When you travel through green lush land, give the camels their share from the ground, and when you travel through dry barren land, make them walk quickly before their strength falters
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When you travel through green lush land, give the camels their share from the ground, and when you travel through dry barren land, make them walk quickly before their strength falters. When you encamp at night, keep away from the roads, because they are the paths of animals and the resorts of insects at nighttime.
Travel during the night, for indeed, the land is folded up at night
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Travel during the night, for indeed, the land is folded up at night.”
When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) encamped to sleep at night during a journey, he would lie down on his right side, and when he wanted to sleep before dawn, he would extend his forearm and place his head on his palm
Abu Qatādah al-Ansāri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) encamped to sleep at night during a journey, he would lie down on his right side, and when he wanted to sleep before dawn, he would extend his forearm and place his head on his palm.
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to stick to the rear while traveling, urging the weak to walk quickly, letting some ride behind him, and making supplication for them

Whenever the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) mounted his camel while setting out on a journey, he would say Takbīr three times and then say: Glory be to the One who subdued this (ride) for us and we were not ourselves powerful enough to use it as a ride, and to our Lord we shall, indeed, return
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Whenever the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) mounted his camel while setting out on a journey, he would say Takbīr three times and then say: "Glory be to the One who subdued this (ride) for us and we were not ourselves powerful enough to use it as a ride, and to our Lord we shall, indeed, return. O Allah, we ask You during this journey of ours for righteousness, piety, and such deeds that are pleasing to You. O Allah, make easy for us this journey of ours and make the distance short for us. O Allah, You are the Companion during the journey and the Guardian of the family and the property in our absence. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of traveling, unhappiness connected with ghastly scenes, and the evil turns in property and family." On returning, he would recite this supplication, while adding these words: "We are those who return; those who repent; those who worship; and those who praise our Lord." In another narration: “Whenever the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Hajj or ‘Umrah and ascended a height or hill, he would say Takbīr three times and say: there is no god but Allah, who has no partner; to Him belongs the sovereignty and due to Him is all praise; and He is omnipotent over all things. We are those who return; those who repent; those who worship; those who prostrate; and those who praise our Lord. Allah has fulfilled His promise, granted His slave victory, and vanquished the confederates alone." In a different wording: “Whenever he returned from battles, Hajj or ‘Umrah.”
O group of Muhājirūn and Ansār! There are among you such people who have no property and no kinsfolk. So let each one of you take along with him two or three men
Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) decided to embark on an expedition, so he said: "O group of Muhājirūn and Ansār, there are among you such people who have no property and no kinsfolk. So let each one of you take along with him two or three men, for none of us has a spare animal and we ride by turns." So I took two or three men with me and I rode my camel by turns with them.
Fear Allah and say "Allah is the Greatest" upon every elevated place
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man said: "O Messenger of Allah, I want to set out on a journey, so advise me." He said: "Fear Allah and say 'Allah is the Greatest' upon every elevated place." When the man turned away, he (the Prophet) said: "O Allah, make the distance short for him and make the journey easy for him.”
When we ascended (a high land), we used to say Takbīr, and when we descended, we used to say Tasbīh
Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When we ascended (a high land), we used to say Takbīr, and when we descended, we used to say Tasbīh. Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his armies, ascended hills, they would say Takbīr, and when they descended, they would say Tasbīh.
O people, do not trouble yourselves too much. He Whom you are calling is not deaf or absent. Verily, He is with you, He is All-Hearing and Ever Near
Abu Mūsa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were on a journey with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and whenever we ascended from a valley we would say "there is no god but Allah" and "Allah is the Greatest" and we would raise our voices. So the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people, do not trouble yourselves too much. He Whom you are calling is not deaf or absent. Verily, He is with you, He is All-Hearing and Ever Near."
كان أهل اليمن يحجون ولا يتزودون ويقولون: نحن المتوكلون
عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما، قال: "كان أهل اليمن يحجون ولا يتزودون، ويقولون: نحن المتوكلون، فإذا قدموا مكة سألوا الناس، فأنزل الله تعالى: {وتزودوا فإن خير الزاد التقوى} [البقرة: 197].
أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا قدم من سفر، فنظر إلى جُدُرات المدينة أوضع راحلته
عن أنس رضي الله عنه أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا قدم من سفرٍ، فنظر إلى جُدُرات المدينة أوضع راحلته، وإن كان على دابة حركها من حبها.
لو يعلم الناس ما في الوحدة ما أعلم ما سار راكب بليل وحده
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِي الوَحْدَةِ مَا أَعْلَمُ مَا سَارَ رَاكِبٌ بِلَيْلٍ وَحْدَهُ».
كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يتخلَّف في المسير، فيُزجي الضعيفَ، ويُردِف، ويدعو لهم
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَخَلَّفُ فِي الْمَسِيرِ، فَيُزْجِي الضَّعِيفَ، وَيُرْدِفُ، وَيَدْعُو لَهُمْ.
أنت أحق بصدر دابتك مني، إلا أن تجعله لي
عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْشِي جَاءَ رَجُلٌ وَمَعَهُ حِمَارٌ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ارْكَبْ، وَتَأَخَّرَ الرَّجُلُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا، أَنْتَ أَحَقُّ بِصَدْرِ دَابَّتِكَ مِنِّي، إِلَّا أَنْ تَجْعَلَهُ لِي». قَالَ: فَإِنِّي قَدْ جَعَلْتُهُ لَكَ، فَرَكِبَ.
Your scattering about in the mountain passes and valleys is indeed from the devil
Abu Tha‘labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Whenever the people encamped during a journey, they would disperse in the mountain passes and valleys. When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) noticed this he said: "Your scattering about in the mountain passes and valleys is indeed from the devil." After that they kept close together whenever they set up camp.
We went out along with the children to meet the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) at Thaniyyat al-Wadā‘
As-Sā'ib ibn Yazīd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the battle of Tabūk to Madīnah, the people received him and I met him along with the children at Thaniyyat al-Wadā’. In another narration: "We went out along with the children to meet the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) at Thaniyyat al-Wadā‘."
لما قدم النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم مكة استقبلته أغيلمة بني عبد المطلب
عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال: لما قدم النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم مكة استقبلته أغيلمة بني عبد المطلب، فحمل واحدًا بين يديه، وآخرَ خلفه.
أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لما قدم المدينة نحر جزورًا أو بقرةً
عن جابر بن عبد الله رضي الله عنهما: أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لما قدم المدينة نحر جزورًا أو بقرةً.
It is not lawful for a Muslim woman to travel the distance of one night unless accompanied by a man who is a Mahram (non-marriageable male relative) to her
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not lawful for a Muslim woman to travel the distance of one night unless accompanied by a man who is a Mahram (non-marriageable male relative) to her."
