The most burdensome prayers for the hypocrites are the ‘Ishā’ and Fajr prayers. If they were to know the virtue of them, they would come to them, even if they had to crawl
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The most burdensome prayers for the hypocrites are the ‘Ishā’ and Fajr prayers. If they were to know the virtue of them, they would come to them, even if they had to crawl. I have almost intended to order for the prayer to be established, and appoint a man to lead the people in prayer, and then I would go along with some men having bundles of firewood, to the people who are not attending the prayer and burn their houses upon them with fire."
The five (daily) prayers, Friday prayer to the next Friday prayer, and Ramadan to the next Ramadan are expiation of the sins committed between them, so long as major sins are avoided
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The five (daily) prayers, Friday prayer to the next Friday prayer, and Ramadan to the next Ramadan are expiation of the sins committed between them, so long as major sins are avoided."
Whoever performs the Fajr prayer is under the protection of Allah
Jundub ibn ‘Abdullāh al-Qasri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs the Fajr prayer is under the protection of Allah; so, do not infringe upon Allah's protection in any respect, for whoever infringes upon Allah's protection in any respect, He will seize him and throw him on his face in Hellfire."
Do you think that if I perform the obligatory payers, fast Ramadan, treat the lawful as lawful, and treat the unlawful as unlawful,
Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man said to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him): "Do you think that if I perform the obligatory payers, fast Ramadan, treat the lawful as lawful, and treat the unlawful as unlawful, and do not do anything else beyond that, will I enter Paradise?" He said: 'Yes.' He said: "By Allah, I will not do anything more than that."
Purity is half of faith, al-hamdulillāh (praise be to Allah) fills the Scale, and subhān Allah wa al-hamdulillāh (glory and praise be to Allah) fills what is between the heavens and the earth
Abu Mālik al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Purity is half of faith, al-hamdulillāh (praise be to Allah) fills the Scale, and subhān Allah wa al-hamdulillāh (glory and praise be to Allah) fills what is between the heavens and the earth. Prayer is light, charity is proof, patience is radiance, and the Qur’an is an argument either for you or against you. Every person goes out in the morning and sells his soul; he either saves it from doom or throws it into destruction."
Which deed is dearest to Allah? He said: "Offering prayer at its earliest appointed time." I said: Then, what comes next? He said: "Dutifulness to one's parents." I said: Then, what comes next? He said: "Jihad in the way of Allah
‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him): Which deed is dearest to Allah? He said: "Offering prayer at its earliest appointed time." I said: Then, what comes next? He said: "Dutifulness to one's parents." I said: Then, what comes next? He said: "Jihad in the way of Allah." He said: These were the things he said to me, and if I had asked him for more, he would have given me more.
I gave the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) a pledge to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish the prayer, to pay Zakah, to hear and obey, and to give sincere advice to every Muslim
Jarīr ibn ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I gave the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) a pledge to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish the prayer, to pay Zakah, to hear and obey, and to give sincere advice to every Muslim.
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: Which part of the prayer is the best? He replied: The long standing
Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: "Which part of the prayer is the best?" He replied: "The long standing."
Make frequent prostrations to Allah, for you do not make a single prostration to Allah except that Allah raises you one degree therewith and remits one sin from you therewith
Ma‘dān ibn Abi Talhah al-Ya‘mari reported: I met Thawbān, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: Tell me about a deed to perform by virtue of which Allah admits me to Paradise - or he said: I said: about the deeds that Allah loves most - but he remained silent. Then I asked him, but he remained silent. Then I asked him for the third time, and he said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about this, and he said: "Make frequent prostrations to Allah, for you do not make a single prostration to Allah except that Allah raises you one degree therewith and remits one sin from you therewith." Ma‘dān said: Then I met Abu ad-Dardā’ and I asked him and he told me the same as Thawbān.
Whoever prays the Bardayn (Fajr and ‘Asr prayers) will enter Paradise
Abu Mūsa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever prays the Bardayn (Fajr and ‘Asr prayers) will enter Paradise."
What if there was a river at the door of any of you wherein he takes a bath five times a day? Would there remain any of his filth?
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: "What if there was a river at the door of any of you wherein he takes a bath five times a day? Would there remain any of his filth?" They said: Nothing of his filth would remain. He said: "This is similar to the five prayers by means of which Allah erases sins."
He who prays before sunrise and before sunset will not enter Hellfire
Abu Zuhayr ‘Umārah ibn Ru’aybah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He who prays before sunrise and before sunset will not enter Hellfire."
No Muslim person who, when an obligatory prayer becomes due, perfects its ablution, humility, and bowing except that it becomes an expiation for the sins that preceded it as long as he has not committed a major sin, and this applies to all times
‘Uthmān (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: "No Muslim person who, when an obligatory prayer becomes due, perfects its ablution, humility, and bowing except that it becomes an expiation for the sins that preceded it as long as he has not committed a major sin, and this applies to all times."
'O Bilāl, call the Iqāmah for the prayer; give us comfort by it.'
Sālim ibn Abu al-Ja‘d reported: A man said: "I wish I had prayed and got comfort." When the people seemed to disapprove of his statement, he said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'O Bilāl, call the Iqāmah for the prayer; give us comfort by it.'"
لتنقضن عرى الإسلام عروة عروة
عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيِّ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: "لَتُنْقَضَنَّ عُرَى الْإِسْلَامِ عُرْوَةً عُرْوَةً، فَكُلَّمَا انْتَقَضَتْ عُرْوَةٌ تَشَبَّثَ النَّاسُ بِالَّتِي تَلِيهَا، وَأَوَّلُهُنَّ نَقْضًا الْحُكْمُ وَآخِرُهُنَّ الصَّلَاةُ".
من قام بعشر آيات لم يكتب من الغافلين
عن عبد الله بن عمرو بن العاص قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : "من قام بعشر آيات لم يكتب من الغافلين، ومن قام بمائة آية كتب من القانتين، ومن قام بألف آية كتب من المُقَنْطِرين".
أليس قد صليت معنا؟
عن أنس بن مالك رضي الله عنه قال: كنت عند النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فجاءه رجل فقال: يا رسول الله، إني أصبتُ حدًّا فأقِمْهُ عليَّ. قال: ولم يسأله عنه، قال: وحضرت الصلاة، فصلى مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فلما قضى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم الصلاة قام إليه الرجل فقال: يا رسول الله، إني أصبتُ حدًّا، فأقم فيَّ كتاب الله. قال: «أليس قد صليت معنا؟» قال: نعم، قال: «فإن الله قد غفر لك ذنبك» أو قال: «حدك».
ما أدري أُحدِّثكم بشيء أو أسكت؟
عن عثمان قال: حدثنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عند انصرافنا من صلاتنا هذه -قال مِسْعَر: أُراها العصر- فقال: «ما أدري أُحدِّثكم بشيء أو أسكت؟» فقلنا: يا رسول الله إن كان خيرًا فحدثنا، وإن كان غير ذلك فالله ورسوله أعلم. قال: «ما من مسلم يتطهر فيتم الطُّهور الذي كتب الله عليه فيصلي هذه الصلوات الخمس إلا كانت كفارات لما بينها».
يعجب ربك عز وجل من راعي غنم في رأس شَظِيَّة بجبل يؤذن للصلاة ويصلي
عن عقبة بن عامر قال: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: "يعجب ربك عز وجل من راعي غنم في رأس شَظِيَّة بجبل، يؤذن للصلاة ويصلي، فيقول الله عز وجل: انظروا إلى عبدي هذا يؤذن ويقيم للصلاة، يخاف مني، قد غفرت لعبدي، وأدخلته الجنة".
يتعاقبون فيكم ملائكةٌ بالليل وملائكةٌ بالنهار
عن أبي هريرة أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: "يتعاقبون فيكم ملائكةٌ بالليل وملائكةٌ بالنهار، ويجتمعون في صلاة الفجر وصلاة العصر، ثم يعرج الذين باتوا فيكم، فيسألهم وهو أعلم بهم: كيف تركتم عبادي؟ فيقولون: تركناهم وهم يصلون، وأتيناهم وهم يصلون".
أبشروا، هذا ربكم قد فتح بابًا من أبواب السماء، يباهي بكم الملائكة
عن عبد الله بن عمرو قال: صلينا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم المغرب، فرجع من رجع، وعقَّب مَن عقَّب، فجاء رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم مسرعًا، قد حَفَزَه النَّفَس، وقد حسر عن ركبتيه، فقال: "أبشروا، هذا ربكم قد فتح بابًا من أبواب السماء، يباهي بكم الملائكة، يقول: انظروا إلى عبادي قد قضوا فريضة، وهم ينتظرون أخرى".
من صلى لله أربعين يومًا في جماعة يدرك التكبيرة الأولى كتب له براءتان
عن أنس بن مالك قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: (من صلى لله أربعين يومًا في جماعة يدرك التكبيرة الأولى كتب له براءتان: براءة من النار، وبراءة من النفاق).
أعني على نفسك بكثرة السجود
عن ربيعة بن كعب الأسلمي قال: كنتُ أبيتُ مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فأتيتُه بوَضوئه وحاجته فقال لي: «سل» فقلت: أسألك مرافقتك في الجنة. قال: «أو غير ذلك؟» قلت: هو ذاك. قال: «فأعني على نفسك بكثرة السجود».
تأكل النار من ابن آدم إلا أثر السجود، حرم الله على النار أن تأكل أثر السجود
عن أبي هريرة مرفوعًا: (تأكل النار من ابن آدم إلا أثر السجود، حرم الله على النار أن تأكل أثر السجود).
Indeed, a servant may pray a prayer, but nothing of it is recorded for him except a tenth of it, or a ninth, or an eighth, or a seventh, or a sixth, or a fifth, or a quarter, or a third, or a half
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Anamah reported: I saw ‘Ammār ibn Yāsir enter the mosque and perform the prayer, and he performed it briefly. When he came out, I went to him and said: O Abu al-Yaqzhān, you performed the prayer briefly. He replied: Did you see me leave out any of its required parts or limits? I said: No. He said: Verily, I hastened in it to ward off the distraction of the devil. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "Indeed, a servant may pray a prayer, but nothing of it is recorded for him except a tenth of it, or a ninth, or an eighth, or a seventh, or a sixth, or a fifth, or a quarter, or a third, or a half."
من تبع جنازة فله قيراط
عن نافع قال: حُدِّث ابن عمر أن أبا هريرة رضي الله عنهم يقول: «من تبع جنازة فله قيراط» فقال: أكثرَ أبو هريرة علينا، فصدَّقت يعني عائشة أبا هريرة، وقالت: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقوله، فقال ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما: لقد فرَّطنا في قراريط كثيرة.
ما من ميت تصلي عليه أُمَّةٌ من المسلمين يبلغون مائة، كلهم يشفعون له، إلا شفعوا فيه
عن عائشة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «ما من ميت تصلي عليه أُمَّةٌ من المسلمين يبلغون مائة، كلهم يشفعون له، إلا شفعوا فيه».
May Allah fill their graves and houses with fire, as they distracted us from the middle prayer until the sun set
‘Ali ibn Abi Tālib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “May Allah fill their graves and houses with fire, as they distracted us from the middle prayer until the sun set.” In another narration: “They distracted us from the middle prayer”, meaning: the ‘Asr prayer. Then he offered it between the Maghrib and the ‘Ishā'. Ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The polytheists distracted the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) from observing the ‘Asr prayer till the sun became red or yellow. So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah fill their bellies and graves with fire!"
Whoever performs the Fajr prayer will be under the protection of Allah
Jundub ibn Sufyān al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs the Fajr prayer will be under the protection of Allah. O son of Adam, beware lest Allah should call you to account for violating His protection.”
