If you say to your companion 'listen' on Friday while the Imām is delivering the sermon, you have thus engaged in idle talk
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you say to your companion 'listen' on Friday while the Imām is delivering the sermon, you have thus engaged in idle talk."
Whoever takes a bath on Friday, like the bath taken from sexual impurity, and then goes (to the mosque) is like the one who offers a camel as a sacrifice
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever takes a bath on Friday, like the bath taken from sexual impurity, and then goes (to the mosque) is like the one who offers a camel as a sacrifice; whoever goes at the second hour is like the one who offers a cow as a sacrifice; whoever goes at the third hour is like the one who offers a horned ram as a sacrifice; whoever goes at the fourth hour is like the one who offers a chicken as a sacrifice; and whoever goes at the fifth hour is like one who offers an egg as a sacrifice. When the Imām comes out, the angels come to listen to the Dhikr."
'Whoever of you comes to attend the Friday prayer, let him take a shower
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever of you comes to attend the Friday prayer, let him take a shower."
He who performs ablution properly and then comes to the Friday prayer and listens to it attentively and keeps silent, his sins between that Friday and the following Friday will be forgiven, with the addition of three more days
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He who performs ablution properly and then comes to the Friday prayer and listens to it attentively and keeps silent, his sins between that Friday and the following Friday will be forgiven, with the addition of three more days; but he who touches a pebble has engaged in idle activity."
Whoever performs ablution on Friday, that is good, and whoever takes a bath has done what is better
Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs ablution on Friday, that is good, and whoever takes a bath has done what is better."
Taking a bath on Friday is obligatory for every pubescent male Muslim, and cleaning the teeth with the tooth-stick and applying perfume if available
‘Amr ibn Sulaym al-Ansāri reported: I bear witness that Abu Sa‘īd said: I bear witness that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Taking a bath on Friday is obligatory for every pubescent male Muslim, and cleaning the teeth with the tooth-stick and applying perfume if available."
When it is Friday, the angels stand at the door of the mosque and keep on writing the names of those coming in order of their arrival
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When it is Friday, the angels stand at the door of the mosque and keep on writing the names of those coming in order of their arrival. The example of the one who enters the mosque in the earliest hour is that of the one offering a camel (as a sacrifice). The one coming next is like the one offering a cow, then a ram, then a chicken, then an egg respectively. When the Imām comes out (for the Friday prayer), they (i.e. the angels) fold their scrolls and listen to the sermon.”
نحن الآخرون من أهل الدنيا، والأولون يوم القيامة
عن أبي هريرة وعن حذيفة، قالا: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «أضل الله عن الجمعة من كان قبلنا، فكان لليهود يوم السبت، وكان للنصارى يوم الأحد، فجاء الله بنا فهدانا الله ليوم الجمعة، فجعل الجمعة والسبت والأحد، وكذلك هم تبع لنا يوم القيامة، نحن الآخرون من أهل الدنيا، والأولون يوم القيامة، المقضي لهم قبل الخلائق».
فيه ساعة لا يوافقها عبدٌ مسلمٌ وهو قائم يصلي يسأل الله تعالى شيئًا إلا أعطاه إياه
عن أبي هريرة أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ذكر يوم الجمعة، فقال: «فيه ساعة، لا يوافقها عبدٌ مسلمٌ، وهو قائم يصلي، يسأل الله تعالى شيئًا، إلا أعطاه إياه» وأشار بيده يقللها.
هي ما بين أن يجلس الإمام إلى أن تقضى الصلاة
عن أبي بردة بن أبي موسى الأشعري قال: قال لي عبد الله بن عمر: أسمعت أباك يحدث عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في شأن ساعة الجمعة؟ قال: قلت: نعم، سمعته يقول: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: «هي ما بين أن يجلس الإمام إلى أن تقضى الصلاة».
يوم الجمعة ثنتا عشرة ساعة
عن جابر بن عبد الله عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «يوم الجمعة ثنتا عشرة -يريد ساعة- لا يوجد مسلم يسأل الله شيئًا إلا آتاه إياه، فالتمسوها آخر ساعة بعد العصر».
إن الأذان يوم الجمعة كان أوله حين يجلس الإمام يوم الجمعة على المنبر
عن السائب بن يزيد قال: إن الأذان يوم الجمعة كان أوله حين يجلس الإمام يوم الجمعة على المنبر، في عهد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وأبي بكر وعمر رضي الله عنهما، فلما كان في خلافة عثمان بن عفان رضي الله عنه وكثروا أمر عثمان يوم الجمعة بالأذان الثالث، فأذن به على الزوراء، فثبت الأمر على ذلك.
اجلِس فقد آذَيتَ
عن أبي الزاهرية قال: كنا مع عبد الله بن بُسر صاحب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يوم الجمعة, فجاء رجل يتخطى رقاب الناس، فقال عبد الله بن بسر: جاء رجل يتخطى رقابَ الناس يوم الجمعة والنبي صلَّى الله عليه وسلم يخطب، فقال له النبي صلَّى الله عليه وسلم: "اجلِس فقد آذَيتَ" وعند ابن ماجه: "وآنيت".
A man came while the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was giving the Friday sermon. So he said to him: O So and so, have you prayed? He said: No. The Prophet said: Then get up and pray two Rak‘ahs
Jābir ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man came while the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was giving the Friday sermon. So he (the Prophet) said to him: "O So and so, have you prayed?" He said: 'No.' The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get up and pray two Rak‘ahs." In another narration: "Then pray two Rak‘ahs."
We used to perform the Friday prayer with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and leave at a time when the walls had no shadow that we could take as shelter
Salāmah ibn al-Akwa‘ (may Allah be pleased with him) who was amongst those who had given the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet beneath the Tree, reported: We used to perform the Friday prayer with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and leave at a time when the walls had no shadow for us to take shelter in. Another wording reads: "We used to perform the Friday prayer with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) after the sun had passed the meridian, then we would return and try to find shadow."
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver two sermons while standing, and he would separate them by sitting
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver two sermons between which he used to sit. Another narration reported by Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him) reads: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver two sermons while standing, and he would separate them by sitting."
I used to pray with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his prayer was moderate in length and his sermon was moderate in length
Abu ‘Abdullāh Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I used to pray with the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and his prayer was moderate in length and his sermon was moderate in length.
The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade Hibwah (a sitting position) on Friday while the Imām is delivering the sermon
Mu‘ādh ibn Anas al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade Hibwah (a sitting position) on Friday while the Imām is delivering the sermon.
{Do you consider giving water to the pilgrims and maintaining the Sacred Mosque as equal to believing in Allah and the Last Day} [Surat at-Tawbah: 19] to the end of the verse
An-Nu‘mān ibn Bashīr (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: I was standing by the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when a man said: I do not care if I do no other deed after becoming Muslim except that I give water to the pilgrims. Another said: I do not care if I do no other deed after becoming Muslim except that I maintain the Sacred Mosque. And another said: Jihad in the cause of Allah is better than what you have said. ‘Umar rebuked them and said: Do not raise your voices near the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)—it is Friday! But when I have prayed the Friday prayer, I will go in and ask him about what you have differed on. Then Allah Almighty revealed: {Do you consider giving water to the pilgrims and maintaining the Sacred Mosque as equal to believing in Allah and the Last Day} [Surat at-Tawbah: 19] to the end of the verse.
أقبلت عِيْرٌ ونحن نصلي مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم الجمعة، فانفض الناس إلا اثني عشر رجلًا
عن جابر رضي الله عنه قال: أقبلت عِيْرٌ ونحن نصلي مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم الجمعة، فانفض الناس إلا اثني عشر رجلًا، فنزلت هذه الآية: {وإذا رأوا تجارة أو لهوًا انفضوا إليها، وتركوك قائمًا} [الجمعة: 11].
آداب يوم الجمعة
عن سلمان الفارسي قال: قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: «لا يغتسل رجلٌ يوم الجمعة، ويتطهر ما استطاع من طهر، ويدَّهنُ مِن دهنه، أو يمسُّ من طيب بيته، ثم يخرج فلا يفرِّق بين اثنين، ثم يصلي ما كُتب له، ثم ينصت إذا تكلم الإمام، إلا غُفر له ما بينه وبين الجمعة الأخرى».
أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يصلي الجمعة حين تميل الشمس
عن أنس بن مالك رضي الله عنه أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يصلي الجمعة حين تميل الشمس.
كانت للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم خطبتان يجلس بينهما يقرأ القرآن ويذكر الناس
عن جابر بن سمرة قال: كانت للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم خطبتان يجلس بينهما يقرأ القرآن، ويذكر الناس.
إن خير الحديث كتاب الله، وخير الهدى هدى محمد، وشر الأمور محدثاتها، وكل بدعة ضلالة
عن جابر بن عبد الله قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا خطب احمرَّتْ عيناه، وعلا صوته، واشتد غضبه، حتى كأنه مُنذِرُ جيشٍ يقول: صبَّحكم ومسَّاكم، ويقول: «بُعثتُ أنا والساعةُ كهاتين»، ويقرن بين إصبعيه السبابة، والوسطى، ويقول: «أما بعد، فإن خير الحديث كتاب الله، وخير الهدى هدى محمد، وشر الأمور محدثاتها، وكل بدعة ضلالة» ثم يقول: «أنا أولى بكل مؤمن من نفسه، من ترك مالًا فلأهله، ومن ترك دينًا أو ضَياعًا فإليَّ وعليَّ».
من اغتسل ثم أتى الجمعة، فصلى ما قدر له، ثم أنصت حتى يفرغ من خطبته، ثم يصلي معه، غفر له ما بينه وبين الجمعة الأخرى
عن أبي هريرة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «من اغتسل ثم أتى الجمعة، فصلى ما قدر له، ثم أنصت حتى يفرغ من خطبته، ثم يصلي معه، غفر له ما بينه وبين الجمعة الأخرى، وفضل ثلاثة أيام».
إذا جاء أحدكم والإمام يخطب أو قد خرج فليصل ركعتين
عن جابر بن عبد الله رضي الله عنهما قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وهو يخطب: «إذا جاء أحدكم والإمام يخطب أو قد خرج فليصل ركعتين».
كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقرأ في العيدين وفي الجمعة بسبح والغاشية
عن النعمان بن بشير قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقرأ في العيدين وفي الجمعة بسبح اسم ربك الأعلى وهل أتاك حديث الغاشية. قال: وإذا اجتمع العيد والجمعة في يوم واحد يقرأ بهما أيضًا في الصلاتين.
إذا صليتم بعد الجمعة فصلوا أربعًا
عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «إذا صليتم بعد الجمعة فصلُّوا أربعًا، فإن عَجِلَ بك شيءٌ فَصَلِّ ركعتين في المسجد، وركعتين إذا رجعت».
Either some people stop abandoning the Friday prayers, or Allah will, indeed, seal their hearts, and then they will be among the heedless
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar and Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that they heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) speak on his wooden pulpit and say: "Either some people stop abandoning the Friday prayers, or Allah will, indeed, seal their hearts, and then they will be among the heedless."
Whoever abandons three Fridays out of negligence, Allah seals his heart
Abu al-Ja‘d ad-Damri (may Allah be pleased with him), who had a companionship with the Prophet, reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever abandons three Fridays out of negligence, Allah seals his heart."
‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him) recited Sūrat An-Nahl on the pulpit during the Friday sermon, and when he reached the verse of prostration, he got down and prostrated, and so did the people
Rabī‘ah ibn ‘Abdullāh ibn al-Hudayr At-Taymi reported: ‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him) recited Sūrat An-Nahl on the pulpit during the Friday sermon, and when he reached the verse of prostration, he got down and prostrated, and so did the people. The next Friday, he recited it, and when he reached the verse of prostration, he said: "O people, we pass by verses of prostration. Whoever prostrates has done something right, but there is no sin on those who do not prostrate." ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) did not prostrate (that time). In another version: "Indeed, Allah did not make such prostration (of recitation) obligatory; we can do it if we wish to do so."
الجمعة حق واجب على كل مسلم في جماعة إلا أربعة
عن طارق بن شهاب عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: "الجمعة حق واجب على كل مسلم في جماعة إلا أربعة: عبد مملوك أو امرأة أو صبي أو مريض".
