Verily, the lawful is clear, and the unlawful is clear
Abu ‘Abdullah an-Nu‘mān ibn Bashīr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "Verily, the lawful is clear, and the unlawful is clear, and between them are doubtful matters many people do not know. Whoever avoids doubtful matters clears his liability regarding his religion and his honor, and whoever falls into doubtful matters will fall into the unlawful, just like the shepherd who grazes his animals in the vicinity of a prohibited pasture and is thus likely to graze therein. Verily, every king has a protected area, and the protected area of Allah is His prohibitions. Verily, in the body, there is a piece of flesh; if it is sound, the entire body will be sound, and if it is corrupt, the entire body will be corrupt; verily, that is the heart."
tell me something about Islam regarding which I can ask none but you. He (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: I believe in Allah, then remain steadfast
Abu ‘Amr—and it was said: Abu ‘Amrah—Sufyān ibn ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me something about Islam regarding which I can ask none but you. He (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: I believe in Allah, then remain steadfast."

Abu Mālik al-Hārith ibn ‘Āsim al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Purity is half of faith, al-hamdulillāh (praise be to Allah) fills the Scale, and subhānallāh wa al-hamdulillāh (glory and praise be to Allah) fills what is between the heavens and the earth. Prayer is light, charity is proof, patience is radiance, and the Qur’an is an argument either for you or against you. Every person goes out in the morning and sells his soul; he either saves it from doom or throws it into destruction."

Sufyān ibn ‘Abdullah ath-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me something about Islam regarding which I can ask none but you. He (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: I believe in Allah, then remain steadfast."
The believer, man or woman, will continue to be tested concerning his or her self, children, and property until they meet Allah without any sins in their record
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The believer, man or woman, will continue to be tested concerning his or her self, children, and property until they meet Allah without any sins in their record."
How astonishing the believer's affair is! Indeed, all of his affairs are good, and this is for none but the believer
Sohaib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How astonishing the believer's affair is! Indeed, all of his affairs are good, and this is for none but the believer. If something good happens to him, he is grateful, which is good for him; and if something bad happens to him, he shows patience, which is good for him."
Be in this world as if you are a stranger or a wayfarer
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) took me by the shoulder and said: "Be in this world as if you are a stranger or a wayfarer." Ibn ‘Umar used to say: If you reach the evening, do not wait for the morning, and if you reach the morning, do not wait for the evening. Take from your health for your sickness and from your life for your death.
The one who is afraid (of the pillage of the enemy) sets out in the early part of the night, and the one who sets out early will reach his destination. Verily, the commodity of Allah is precious. Verily, the commodity of Allah is Paradise
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who is afraid (of the pillage of the enemy) sets out in the early part of the night, and the one who sets out early will reach his destination. Verily, the commodity of Allah is precious. Verily, the commodity of Allah is Paradise."
واللهِ لو تَعْلَمُونَ مَا أَعْلَمُ، لَضَحِكْتُمْ قَلِيلًا ولَبَكَيْتُمْ كَثِيرًا، ومَا تَلَذَّذْتُمْ بالنِّسَاءِ عَلَى الفُرُشِ، ولَخَرَجْتُمْ إلى الصُّعُدَاتِ تَجْأَرُونَ إلى اللهِ تَعَالَى
عن أبي ذر رضي الله عنه مرفوعاً: «إِنِّي أرى ما لا ترون، أَطَّتِ السماء وحُقَّ لها أَنْ تَئِطَّ، ما فيها موضع أربع أصابع إلا وملك واضع جبهته ساجداً لله تعالى والله لو تعلمون ما أعلم لضحكتم قليلاً ولبكيتم كثيراً، وما تلذذتم بالنساء على الفُرُشِ، ولخرجتم إلى الصُّعُدَاتِ تَجْأَرُونَ إلى الله تعالى».
The Hour will not be established until a man would pass by the grave of another man and say: 'I wish I were in his place.'
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Hour will not be established until a man would pass by the grave of another man and say: 'I wish I were in his place.'"
The extent to which they betrayed you, disobeyed you, and lied to you will be measured against how much you punish them
‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: A man came and sat in front of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have two slaves who lie to me, deceive me, and disobey me, and I scold them and hit them. So what is my case concerning them?" He said: "The extent to which they betrayed you, disobeyed you, and lied to you will be measured against how much you punish them. If your punishing them is equal to their sins, the two will be the same, nothing for you and nothing against you. If your punishing them is above their sins, some of your rewards will be taken from you and given to them." The man left, and began weeping and crying aloud. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You should read what Allah says in His Book: {We will place the scales of justice on the Day of Resurrection, and no soul will be wronged in the least. Even if a deed is the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. Sufficient are We as Reckoners.} [Surat al-Anbiyā': 47]" Thereupon, the man said: "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I see nothing better for myself and them than parting with them. Bear witness that they are all free."
You indulge in such actions that are less significant in your eyes than a hair, while we used to consider them destructive sins during the Prophet’s lifetime
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “You indulge in such actions that are less significant in your eyes than a hair, while we used to consider them destructive sins during the Prophet’s lifetime.”
If Allah willed to do good to His slave, He expedites his punishment in the life of this world, and if He willed to do ill to His slave, He withholds the punishment for his sins until He comes with all his sins on the Day of Resurrection
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: ''If Allah willed to do good to His slave, He expedites his punishment in the life of this world, and if He willed to do ill to His slave, He withholds the punishment for his sins until He comes with all his sins on the Day of Resurrection."
This (line) represents man, and this (line) represents the end of his life, and while he is as such, the closest line overtakes him
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) drew lines (in the sand) and said: "This (line) represents man, and this (line) represents the end of his life term, and while he is as such, the nearest line overtakes him." Ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) drew a square and drew a line in the middle that extended out of it. He drew some small lines on both sides of that central line, and said: "This is man (the line in the middle), and this is his life span encompassing him (the square). This line extending out of the square is his hope, and these small lines are the troubles and accidents that befall him. If this one misses him, that one snaps at him, and if this one misses him, that one snaps at him."
I asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about the sudden glance, and he commanded me to avert my gaze
Jarīr ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about the sudden glance, and he commanded me to avert my gaze.
إذا سرتك حسنتك وساءتك سيئتك فأنت مؤمن
عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا الْإِيمَانُ؟ قَالَ: «إِذَا سَرَّتْكَ حَسَنَتُكَ وَسَاءَتْكَ سَيِّئَتُكَ فَأَنْتَ مُؤْمِنٌ» فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا الْإِثْمُ؟ قَالَ: «إِذَا حَاكَ فِي صَدْرِكَ شَيْءٌ فَدَعْهُ».
الآن يا عمر
عَنْ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ هِشَامٍ، قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِيَدِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الخَطَّابِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، لَأَنْتَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا مِنْ نَفْسِي، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لاَ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ، حَتَّى أَكُونَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ نَفْسِكَ» فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: فَإِنَّهُ الآنَ، وَاللَّهِ، لَأَنْتَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ نَفْسِي، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الآنَ يَا عُمَرُ».
الصابر فيهم على دينه كالقابض على الجمر
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: (يَأْتِي عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ الصَّابِرُ فِيهِمْ عَلَى دِينِهِ كَالقَابِضِ عَلَى الجَمْرِ).
إن الشيطان قعد لابن آدم بأطرقه
عَنْ سَبْرَةَ بْنِ أَبِي فَاكِهٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: "إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَعَدَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ بِأَطْرُقِهِ، فَقَعَدَ لَهُ بِطَرِيقِ الْإِسْلَامِ، فَقَالَ: تُسْلِمُ وَتَذَرُ دِينَكَ وَدِينَ آبَائِكَ وَآبَاءِ أَبِيكَ، فَعَصَاهُ فَأَسْلَمَ، ثُمَّ قَعَدَ لَهُ بِطَرِيقِ الْهِجْرَةِ، فَقَالَ: تُهَاجِرُ وَتَدَعُ أَرْضَكَ وَسَمَاءَكَ، وَإِنَّمَا مَثَلُ الْمُهَاجِرِ كَمَثَلِ الْفَرَسِ فِي الطِّوَلِ، فَعَصَاهُ فَهَاجَرَ، ثُمَّ قَعَدَ لَهُ بِطَرِيقِ الْجِهَادِ، فَقَالَ: تُجَاهِدُ فَهُوَ جَهْدُ النَّفْسِ وَالْمَالِ، فَتُقَاتِلُ فَتُقْتَلُ، فَتُنْكَحُ الْمَرْأَةُ، وَيُقْسَمُ الْمَالُ، فَعَصَاهُ فَجَاهَدَ" فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ، وَمَنْ قُتِلَ كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ، وَإِنْ غَرِقَ كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ، أَوْ وَقَصَتْهُ دَابَّتُهُ كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ».
إن الرجل ليعمل بعمل أهل الجنة وإنه لمكتوب في الكتاب من أهل النار
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: "إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ، وَإِنَّهُ لَمَكْتُوبٌ فِي الْكِتَابِ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ، فَإِذَا كَانَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ تَحَوَّلَ فَعَمِلَ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ فَمَاتَ، فَدَخَلَ النَّارَ، وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَعْمَلُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ، وَإِنَّهُ لَمَكْتُوبٌ فِي الْكِتَابِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ، فَإِذَا كَانَ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهِ تَحَوَّلَ، فَعَمِلَ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ، فَمَاتَ فَدَخَلَهَا".
حسبي، لا أبالي ألا أسمع غيرها
عن صعصعة بن معاوية عم الفرزدق -أو عم الأحنف- أنه أتى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقرأ عليه: {فمن يعمل مثقال ذرة خيرًا يره ومن يعمل مثقال ذرة شرًّا يره} [الزلزلة: 8]، قال: حسبي، لا أبالي ألا أسمع غيرها.
إن أول ما يُسأل عنه يوم القيامة من النعيم أن يقال له: ألم نُصِحَّ لك جسمك، ونُرْوِيك من الماء البارد
عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: (إن أول ما يُسأل عنه يوم القيامة -يعني العبد- من النعيم أن يقال له: ألم نُصِحَّ لك جسمك، ونُرْوِيك من الماء البارد؟).
يا رسول الله هو صدقة لله فضعه حيث شئت
عن عبد الله بن أبي بكر أن أبا طلحة الأنصاري كان يصلي في حائطه فطار دُبْسِيٌّ، فطَفِق يتردَّد يلتمس مخرجًا، فأعجبه ذلك، فجعل يُتبِعُه بصرَه ساعةً، ثم رجع إلى صلاته، فإذا هو لا يدري كم صلى. فقال: لقد أصابتني في مالي هذا فتنة. فجاء إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فذكر له الذي أصابه في حائطه من الفتنة، وقال: يا رسول الله هو صدقة لله فضعه حيث شئت.
What do I have to do with this worldly life? I am in this worldly life like a rider who seeks shade under a tree, then he goes away and leaves it
‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was sleeping upon a straw mat, and then he got up, and it had left marks on his side. We said: O Messenger of Allah, we could get a mattress for you. He said: "What do I have to do with this worldly life? I am in this worldly life like a rider who seeks shade under a tree, then he goes away and leaves it."
يا أبا بكر لعلك أغضبتَهم، لئن كنتَ أغضبتهم لقد أغضبت ربك
عن عائذ بن عمرو أن أبا سفيان أتى على سلمان وصهيب وبلال في نفر، فقالوا: والله ما أخذتْ سيوفُ اللهِ من عُنُقِ عدوِّ الله مَأْخَذَها، قال فقال أبو بكر: أتقولون هذا لشيخِ قريشٍ وسيدِهم؟ فأتى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فأخبره، فقال: «يا أبا بكر، لعلك أغضبتَهم، لئن كنتَ أغضبتهم لقد أغضبتَ ربَّك» فأتاهم أبو بكر فقال: يا إِخْوَتَاه أغضبتُكم؟ قالوا: لا، يغفر الله لك يا أخي.
إنه لا يدخل الجنة إلا نفس مسلمة، وإن الله لَيُؤيِّد هذا الدينَ بالرجل الفاجر
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: شَهِدْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ لِرَجُلٍ مِمَّنْ يَدَّعِي الإِسْلاَمَ: «هَذَا مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ»، فَلَمَّا حَضَرَ القِتَالُ قَاتَلَ الرَّجُلُ قِتَالًا شَدِيدًا فَأَصَابَتْهُ جِرَاحَةٌ، فَقِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، الَّذِي قُلْتَ لَهُ إِنَّهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ، فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ قَاتَلَ اليَوْمَ قِتَالًا شَدِيدًا وَقَدْ مَاتَ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِلَى النَّارِ»، قَالَ: فَكَادَ بَعْضُ النَّاسِ أَنْ يَرْتَابَ، فَبَيْنَمَا هُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ، إِذْ قِيلَ: إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَمُتْ، وَلَكِنَّ بِهِ جِرَاحًا شَدِيدًا، فَلَمَّا كَانَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ لَمْ يَصْبِرْ عَلَى الجِرَاحِ فَقَتَلَ نَفْسَهُ، فَأُخْبِرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: «اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنِّي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولُهُ»، ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِلاَلًا فَنَادَى بِالنَّاسِ: «إِنَّهُ لاَ يَدْخُلُ الجَنَّةَ إِلَّا نَفْسٌ مُسْلِمَةٌ، وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَيُؤَيِّدُ هَذَا الدِّينَ بِالرَّجُلِ الفَاجِرِ»
الله يبتلي عبده بما أعطاه
عَن أَبي الْعَلَاءِ بْنُ الشِّخِّيرِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَحَدُ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ، وَلَا أَحْسَبُهُ إِلَّا قَدْ رَأَى رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "أَنَّ اللهَ يَبْتَلِي عَبْدَهُ بِمَا أَعْطَاهُ، فَمَنْ رَضِيَ بِمَا قَسَمَ اللهُ لَهُ، بَارَكَ اللهُ لَهُ فِيهِ، وَوَسَّعَهُ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَرْضَ لَمْ يُبَارِكْ لَهُ".
Do not envy one another, do not raise prices by overbidding against one another, do not hate one another, do not turn your backs on one another, and do not undercut one another in trade; and be, O slaves of Allah, our brothers
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not envy one another, do not raise prices by overbidding against one another, do not hate one another, do not turn your backs on one another, and do not undercut one another in trade; and be, O slaves of Allah, our brothers. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim; he does not wrong him, he does not fail him, and he does not despise him. Piety lies here," and he pointed to his chest three times. "It is enough evil for a person to look down upon his Muslim brother. All of a Muslim is inviolable to another Muslim: his blood, his property, and his honor."
Look at those who are below you, and do not look at those who are above you, for that is more likely to hold you back from belittling the blessing of Allah upon you
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Look at those who are below you, and do not look at those who are above you, for that is more likely to hold you back from belittling the blessing of Allah upon you."
There are two blessings in which many people incur loss: health and free time
Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are two blessings in which many people incur loss: health and free time."
There are seven whom Allah Almighty will shade in His Shade on a Day when there will be no shade but His Shade
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are seven whom Allah Almighty will shade in His Shade on a Day when there will be no shade but His Shade: a just ruler; a young man who grew up in the worship of Allah; a man whose heart is attached to mosques; two men who love each other for the sake of Allah so they meet and depart from each other for His sake; a man whom a woman of status and beauty invites, but he says: Indeed, I fear Allah; a man who gives charity and conceals it, so his left does not know what his right gave; and a man who remembers Allah in solitude, so his eyes overflow with tears."
