اللهم إني أسألك الهدى والتقى والعفاف والغنى
عن عبد الله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه قال: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: «اللهم ِإنِّي أَسأَلُك الهُدَى، والتُّقَى، والعَفَاف، والغِنَى».
If I had gold equal to the mountain of Uhud, it would please me that I should have nothing left of it with me after the passage of three nights, except what I might retain to repay a debt
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I had gold equal to the mountain of Uhud, it would please me that I should have nothing left of it with me after the passage of three nights, except what I might retain to repay a debt."
{Then, on that Day, you will definitely be questioned about your worldly pleasures.}
Az-Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwām reported: When the following verse was revealed {Then, on that Day, you will definitely be questioned about your worldly pleasures.} [Surat at-Takāthur: 8], Az-Zubayr said: "O Messenger of Allah, which pleasures will we be asked about; there are only the two black things: dates and water?" He said: "This will certainly come."
ليأتين على الناس زمان، لا يبالي المرء بما أخذ المال، أمن حلال أم من حرام
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَيَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ لاَ يُبَالِي المَرْءُ بِمَا أَخَذَ المَالَ، أَمِنْ حَلاَلٍ أَمْ مِنْ حَرَامٍ».
The needy is not the one who can be turned away with a date-fruit or two, or a morsel or two. But, the needy is the one who abstains from begging
Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The needy is not the one who can be turned away with a date-fruit or two, or a morsel or two. But, the needy is the one who abstains from begging."
This world is a prison for the believer and a paradise for the disbeliever
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This world is a prison for the believer and a paradise for the disbeliever."
This one is better than an earthful of the other
Sahl ibn Sa‘d As-Sā‘idi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man passed by the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) so he said to a man who was sitting with him: "What do you say about this man?" He replied: "He is one of the noblest of people. By Allah, if he proposes marriage his proposal deserves to be accepted, and if he intercedes his intercession deserves to be accepted." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. Then another man passed by. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What do you think about this man?" He replied: "O Messenger of Allah, this is one of the poor Muslims. If he proposes marriage he does not deserve to get married, and if he intercedes his intercession does not deserve to be accepted, and if he speaks he does not deserve to be listened to." The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "This one (the second) is better than an earthful of the other (the first).”
Who can guarantee for me that he will never ask people for something, and I will guarantee for him Paradise
Thawbān (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Who can guarantee for me that he will never ask people for something, and I will guarantee Paradise for him?" So I said: "I do." Since then, Thawabān (may Allah be pleased with him) never asked anyone for anything.
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) passed by us while we were repairing a hut that we owned
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Amr ibn al-‘Ās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) passed by us while we were repairing a hut that we owned. He said: "What is this?" We replied: "It has become weak, so we are repairing it." He said: "I foresee that the matter (meaning death) is swifter/sooner than that."
Be indifferent to worldly life; Allah will love you, and be indifferent to what people have; people will love you
Abu al-‘Abbās Sahl ibn Sa‘d as-Sā‘idi (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: O Messenger of Allah, guide me to a deed which, if I do it, Allah will love me and people will love me. He said: "Be indifferent to worldly life; Allah will love you, and be indifferent to what people have; people will love you."
What is left of it (the sheep)? She replied: Nothing is left except its shoulder. He said: All of it is left except its shoulder
‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that they slaughtered a sheep, so the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “What is left of it?” She replied: “Nothing is left except its shoulder.” He said: “All of it is left except its shoulder.”
Abu Bakr As-Siddīq (may Allah be pleased with him) had a slave who used to give him a portion of his daily income as the master's share. Abu Bakr used to eat the food bought with that share
‘Ā'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: Abu Bakr As-Siddīq (may Allah be pleased with him) had a slave who used to give him a portion of his daily income as the master's share. Abu Bakr used to eat the food bought with that share. Once he brought him some food and Abu Bakr ate from it. The slave then said: "Do you know what this is?" Abu Bakr said: "What is it?" The slave said: "I did some soothsaying for a man before I embraced Islam, and I was not good at soothsaying but I deceived him. He met me and rewarded me for my work. That is what you have eaten from." Upon hearing this, Abu Bakr inserted his hand (in his mouth) and vomited all that was in his stomach.
أعد للفقر تجفافًا
عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي أُحِبُّكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اللَّهَ» قَالَ: اللَّهَ، قَالَ: «فَأَعِدَّ لِلْفَقْرِ تِجْفَافًا فَإِنَّ الْفَقْرَ أَسْرَعُ إِلَى مَنْ يُحِبُّنَا مِنَ السَّيْلِ مِنْ أَعْلَى الْأَكَمَةِ إِلَى أَسْفَلِهَا».
مثل ابن آدم وإلى جنبه تسع وتسعون منية
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: (مُثِّلَ ابْنُ آدَمَ وَإِلَى جَنْبِهِ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ مَنِيَّةً إِنْ أَخْطَأَتْهُ الْمَنَايَا وَقَعَ فِي الهَرَمِ حَتَّى يَمُوتَ).
يا رسول الله هو صدقة لله فضعه حيث شئت
عن عبد الله بن أبي بكر أن أبا طلحة الأنصاري كان يصلي في حائطه فطار دُبْسِيٌّ، فطَفِق يتردَّد يلتمس مخرجًا، فأعجبه ذلك، فجعل يُتبِعُه بصرَه ساعةً، ثم رجع إلى صلاته، فإذا هو لا يدري كم صلى. فقال: لقد أصابتني في مالي هذا فتنة. فجاء إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فذكر له الذي أصابه في حائطه من الفتنة، وقال: يا رسول الله هو صدقة لله فضعه حيث شئت.
لمناديل سعد بن معاذ في الجنة أفضل من هذا
عن البراء بن عازب رضي الله عنهما قال: أُتِيَ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بثوب من حريرٍ، فجعلوا يعجبون من حُسْنِه ولِيْنِه، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «لمناديل سعد بن معاذ في الجنة أفضل من هذا».

The family of Muhammad (ﷺ) never ate their fill of wheat bread for three consecutive nights from the time he arrived in Madīnah until he passed away
‘Ā’ishah, the Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), reported: The family of Muhammad (ﷺ) never ate their fill of wheat bread for three consecutive nights from the time he arrived in Madīnah until he passed away.
ما رأى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم النقي، من حين ابتعثه الله حتى قبضه الله.
عن أبي حازم قال: سألت سهل بن سعد، فقلت: هل أكل رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم النَّقِيَّ؟ فقال سهل: ما رأى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم النقي، من حين ابتعثه الله حتى قبضه الله. قال: فقلت: هل كانت لكم في عهد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم مَنَاخِلَ؟ قال: ما رأى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم مُنْخُلًا، من حين ابتعثه الله حتى قبضه الله. قال: قلت: كيف كنتم تأكلون الشعير غير منخول؟ قال: كنا نطحنه وننفخه، فيطير ما طار، وما بقي ثرَّيْناه فأكلناه.
ما علمتُ النبيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَكَلَ على سُكُرُّجَةٍ قط، ولا خُبِزَ له مُرَقَّقٌ قط، ولا أكل على خِوَانٍ قط
عن قتادة عن أنس رضي الله عنه قال: ما علمتُ النبيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَكَلَ على سُكُرُّجَةٍ قط، ولا خُبِزَ له مُرَقَّقٌ قط، ولا أكل على خِوَانٍ قط. قيل لقتادة: فعلام كانوا يأكلون؟ قال: على السُّفَر.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not leave behind at his death a single dirham or dinar, nor a male or female servant, nor anything else—except his white mule, his weapon, a piece of land—which he declared as charity
‘Amr ibn al-Hārith, the brother-in-law of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and the brother of the Mother of the Believers, Juwayriyah bint al-Hārith (may Allah be pleased with them), reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not leave behind at his death a single dirham or dinar, nor a male or female servant, nor anything else—except his white mule, his weapon, a piece of land—which he declared as charity.
أقلَّ الضحك، فإن كثرة الضحك تميت القلب
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، كُنْ وَرِعًا تَكُنْ أَعْبَدَ النَّاسِ، وَكُنْ قَنِعًا تَكُنْ أَشْكَرَ النَّاسِ، وَأَحِبَّ لِلنَّاسِ مَا تُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِكَ تَكُنْ مُؤْمِنًا، وَأَحْسِنْ جِوَارَ مَنْ جَاوَرَكَ تَكُنْ مُسْلِمًا، وَأَقِلَّ الضَّحِكَ، فَإِنَّ كَثْرَةَ الضَّحِكِ تُمِيتُ الْقَلْبَ».
طوبى لمن هدي إلى الإسلام
وعَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ «طُوبَى لِمَنْ هُدِيَ إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ، وَكَانَ عَيْشُهُ كَفَافًا وقَنِعَ».
لا تتخذوا الضيعة فترغبوا في الدنيا
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لاَ تَتَّخِذُوا الضَّيْعَةَ فَتَرْغَبُوا فِي الدُّنْيَا».
Whoever among you wakes up in the morning healthy in his body, secure in his dwelling, and has his food for the day, it is as if the whole world has been given to him
‘Ubaidullah ibn Mihsan al-Ansāri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever among you wakes up in the morning healthy in his body, secure in his dwelling, and has his food for the day, it is as if the whole world has been given to him."
