The evening azkar include the last two verses of Surat al-Baqarah, treasures given from beneath the Throne with which a Muslim seals his day. They combine an affirmation of faith in Allah, His angels, books, and messengers with a heartfelt plea for forgiveness, pardon, and victory, forming a shield for the believer through the night.

أَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيم آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۚ كُلٌّ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِنْ رُسُلِهِ ۚ وَقَالُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا ۖ غُفْرَانَكَ رَبَّنَا وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ. لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَّسِينَآ أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا أَنْتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ.

'a'oodhu bial-lhi min ash-shhaytaani ar-rrajeem 'amana ar-rrasoolu bimaa 'unzila 'iilayhi min rabbihi waalmu'minoona ۚ kullun 'amana bial-llahi wamalaa'ikatihi wakutubihi warusulihi laa nufarriqu bayna 'ahadin min rusulihi ۚ waqaalooa sami'naa wa'ata'naa ۖ ghufraanaka rabbanaa wa'iilayka al-maseeru. Laa yukallifu Allah nafsana 'iillaa wus'ahaa lahaa maa kasabat wa'alayhaa maa ktasabat rabbanaa laa tu'aakhidhnaa inna naseena'a 'aw 'akhta'naa rabbanaa walaa tahmil 'alaynaa 'iisrana kamaa hamaltahu 'alaa adh-dheena min qablinaa rabbanaa walaa tuhammilnaa maa laa taaqaha lanaa bihi waa'fu 'annaa waaghfir lanaa waarhamnaa 'anta mawlaanaa faansurnaa 'alaa al-qawmi al-kaafireena.

Meaning

The Messenger believes in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and so do the believers. Each one believes in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers, saying: We make no distinction between any of His messengers. And they say: We hear and we obey; grant us Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the final return. Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity; it earns the good it does and bears the evil it commits. Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or fall into error; do not lay upon us a burden like that laid upon those before us; and do not burden us with what we have no strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so grant us victory over the disbelieving people.
