Part of the sleep azkar concerns dreams and visions: a good dream is from Allah, while a disturbing dream is from Satan. Whoever sees what he dislikes should spit dryly to his left three times, seek refuge in Allah from Satan, and tell no one — then it will not harm him, by Allah's leave.

Meaning
This is the Prophetic guidance on dreams: a good, righteous dream is from Allah, while a distressing dream is from Satan. So whoever sees something he dislikes should spit dryly to his left three times and seek refuge in Allah from Satan, and then it will not harm him — and he should not tell anyone about it.
When to recite
Act upon this when one sees a distressing dream: spit dryly to the left three times, seek refuge in Allah from Satan, and do not tell anyone about it.

What is the difference between a good dream and a bad one?
A good, righteous dream is from Allah and is glad tidings, while a distressing dream is from Satan meant to frighten the sleeper, so one turns away from it by seeking refuge.
Should one relate a bad dream to others?
No; it is from the Sunnah not to tell anyone about a distressing dream, but to suffice with seeking refuge and spitting to the left, and then it will not harm him.
