Every intoxicant is prohibited
Abu Burdah reported from his father Abu Mūsa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) had sent him to Yemen, and he asked him about certain drinks that used to be prepared there. He said: What are they? He said: "Al-Bit‘ and Al-Mizr?" It was said to Abu Burdah: What is Al-Bit‘? He said: An alcoholic drink made from honey, and Al-Mizr is an alcoholic drink made from barley. Thereupon, he said: "Every intoxicant is prohibited" [Narrated by Al-Bukhāri] Muslim narrated it with the following wording: He said: The Messenger of Allah sent me and Mu‘ādh to Yemen. I said: O Messenger of Allah, there is a drink made in our land called 'Al-Mizr' from barley and a drink called 'Al-Bit‘' from honey. He said: "Every intoxicant is prohibited." Another version by Muslim reads: "Thereupon, he said: Every intoxicant that detains one from prayer is forbidden." Another version by him reads: "The Messenger of Allah is gifted with the most eloquent and concise speech. He said: I forbid every intoxicant that keeps one away from prayer."
Allah sent down the verse wherein He prohibited alcohol at a time when there was no other (intoxicant) drink in Madīnah except that prepared from dates
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Allah sent down the verse wherein He prohibited alcohol at a time when there was no other (intoxicant) drink in Madīnah except that prepared from dates.
Every intoxicant is Khamr (alcoholic drink), and every intoxicant is prohibited. Whoever drinks Khamr in this world and dies while being addicted to it without repenting will not drink it in the Hereafter
Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every intoxicant is Khamr (alcoholic drink), and every intoxicant is prohibited. Whoever drinks Khamr in this world and dies while being addicted to it without repenting will not drink it in the Hereafter."
It is not a medicine, but an ailment
Wā'il al-Hadrami reported: Tāriq ibn Suwayd al-Ju‘fi asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about alcohol. he forbade him from preparing it. He (Tāriq) said: “I only prepare it for medicinal reasons.” Whereupon the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: “It is not medicine, but an ailment.”
Whatever intoxicates in large amounts, its small amount is forbidden
Jābir ibn ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever intoxicates in large amounts, its small amount is forbidden."
لعنت الخمر على عشرة وجوه
عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لُعِنَتِ الْخَمْرُ عَلَى عَشْرَةِ وُجُوهٍ: لُعِنَتِ الْخَمْرُ بِعَيْنِهَا، وَشَارِبُهَا، وَسَاقِيهَا، وَبَائِعُهَا، وَمُبْتَاعُهَا، وَعَاصِرُهَا، وَمُعْتَصِرُهَا، وَحَامِلُهَا، وَالْمَحْمُولَةُ إِلَيْهِ، وَآكِلُ ثَمَنِهَا».
May Allah destroy the Jews; the fat of animals was forbidden for them, but they melted it and sold it.
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was once informed that so-and-so sold alcohol. ‘Umar said: "May Allah destroy so-and-so! Does he not know that the Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘May Allah destroy the Jews; the fat of animals was forbidden for them, but they melted it and sold it'?"
The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about making vinegar out of an alcoholic drink. He said: No
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about making vinegar out of an alcoholic drink. He said: 'No.'
اللهم بين لنا في الخمر بيانًا شفاءً
عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَ تَحْرِيمُ الْخَمْرِ قَالَ عُمَرُ: اللَّهُمَّ بَيِّنْ لَنَا فِي الْخَمْرِ بَيَانًا شِفَاءً، فَنَزَلَتِ الْآيَةُ الَّتِي فِي الْبَقَرَةِ: {يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ قُلْ فِيهِمَا إِثْمٌ كَبِيرٌ} [البقرة: 219] الْآيَةَ، قَالَ: فَدُعِيَ عُمَرُ فَقُرِئَتْ عَلَيْهِ، قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ بَيِّنْ لَنَا فِي الْخَمْرِ بَيَانًا شِفَاءً، فَنَزَلَتِ الْآيَةُ الَّتِي فِي النِّسَاءِ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَقْرَبُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَأَنْتُمْ سُكَارَى} [النساء: 43]، فَكَانَ مُنَادِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ نَادى: أَلَا لَا يَقْرَبَنَّ الصَّلَاةَ سَكْرَانُ، فَدُعِيَ عُمَرُ فَقُرِئَتْ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ بَيِّنْ لَنَا فِي الْخَمْرِ بَيَانًا شِفَاءً، فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُنْتَهُونَ} [المائدة: 91] قَالَ عُمَرُ: انْتَهَيْنَا.
نهيتكم عن الظروف
عن بُرَيْدَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنِ الظُّرُوفِ، وَإِنَّ الظُّرُوفَ -أَوْ ظَرْفًا- لَا يُحِلُّ شَيْئًا وَلَا يُحَرِّمُهُ، وَكُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ».
يا أيها الناس إن الله تعالى يُعرِّض بالخمر
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ، قَالَ: «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى يُعَرِّضُ بِالْخَمْرِ، وَلَعَلَّ اللهَ سَيُنْزِلُ فِيهَا أَمْرًا، فَمَنْ كَانَ عِنْدَهُ مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ فَلْيَبِعْهُ وَلْيَنْتَفِعْ بِهِ»، قَالَ: فَمَا لَبِثْنَا إِلَّا يَسِيرًا حَتَّى قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى حَرَّمَ الْخَمْرَ، فَمَنْ أَدْرَكَتْهُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ وَعِنْدَهُ مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ فَلَا يَشْرَبْ، وَلَا يَبِعْ»، قَالَ: فَاسْتَقْبَلَ النَّاسُ بِمَا كَانَ عِنْدَهُ مِنْهَا فِي طَرِيقِ الْمَدِينَةِ فَسَفَكُوهَا.
لا تنتبذوا الزَّهو والرُّطَب جميعًا
عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا تَنْتَبِذُوا الزَّهْوَ وَالرُّطَبَ جَمِيعًا، وَلَا تَنْتَبِذُوا الزَّبِيبَ وَالتَّمْرَ جَمِيعًا، وَانْتَبِذُوا كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا عَلَى حِدَتِهِ».
Indeed, wine has been declared unlawful
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I was the people's cup-bearer in the house of Abu Talhah, and their wine at that time was Fadīkh. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) commanded a caller to call out: Indeed, wine has been declared unlawful. He said: So Abu Talhah said to me: Go out and spill it. I went out, and I spilled it, and it was flowing in the paths of Madīnah. Some of the people said: Some people had been killed when it was in their bellies. Thereupon, Allah revealed: {There is no blame on those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they consumed...} [Surat al-Mā’idah: 93].
