Exalting Allah while ascending and glorifying Him while descending is among the practical travel azkar that the Prophet, peace be upon him, and his companions observed during their journeys, accompanying the traveler through every rise and dip along the road.

التَّكْبِيرُ عِنْدَ الصُّعُودِ: اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ. وَالتَّسْبِيحُ عِنْدَ الْهُبُوطِ: سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ.

At-takbeer 'indas-su'ood: Allahu akbar. Wat-tasbeeh 'indal-huboot: Subhanallah.

من هدي النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وأصحابه في السفر، قال جابر بن عبد الله رضي الله عنهما: كُنَّا إِذَا صَعِدْنَا كَبَّرْنَا، وَإِذَا نَزَلْنَا سَبَّحْنَا.
