‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: Do you have any of the revelation, other than what is in Allah's Book? He said: No, by Him Who grows the grain and originates the soul, I have nothing other than the understanding of the Qur'an, which Allah bestows upon some people, and what is written in this sheet
Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I asked ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Do you have any of the revelation, other than what is in Allah's Book?" He said: "No, by Him Who grows the grain and originates the soul, I have nothing other than the understanding of the Qur'an, which Allah bestows upon some people, and what is written on this sheet." I asked: "What is written on that sheet?" He replied: "(Injunctions on) blood money, the freeing of captives, and that a Muslim should not be killed for a disbeliever."
يا عمرو، صليتَ بأصحابك وأنت جنب؟
عن عمرو بن العاص، قال: احتلمت في ليلة باردة في غزوة ذات السَّلاسل، فأشفقتُ أن اغتسل فأهْلِكَ، فتيممتُ ثم صليتُ بأصحابي الصبح، فذكروا ذلك للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: "يا عمرو، صليتَ بأصحابك وأنت جنب؟" فأخبرته بالذي منعني من الاغتسال، وقلت: إني سمعت الله يقول: {ولا تقتلوا أنفسكم إن الله كان بكم رحيمًا} [النساء: 29]، فضحك رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ولم يقل شيئَا.

عن ابن عباس قال: قرأ النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فيما أُمر وسكت فيما أُمر، {وما كان ربك نسيا} [مريم: 64] {لقد كان لكم في رسول الله أسوة حسنة} [الأحزاب: 21].
