The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to remember Allah at all times
‘Ā’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to remember Allah at all times.
Is this what you have been ordered with? That you set the Book of Allah against itself? The people before you were only ruined when they differed about this matter. You have nothing to do with what was going on here. See what I commanded you to do, and observe it and act upon it, and what I forbade you to do, desist from it
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a number of people were sitting at the door of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). Some of them said: "Did Allah not say such-and-such?" Others said: "Did Allah not say such-and-such?" So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) heard that and came out, and he was (red) as if a pomegranate was bursting through his cheeks. He said: "Is this what you have been ordered with?" or "Is this what you have been sent with? That you set the Book of Allah against itself? The people before you were only ruined when they differed about this matter. You have nothing to do with what was going on here. See what I commanded you to do, and observe it and act upon it, and what I forbade you to do, desist from it."
Do not argue about the Qur’an, for arguing about it constitutes disbelief
‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not argue about the Qur’an, for arguing about it constitutes disbelief."

‘Abdur-Rahmān as-Sulami (may Allah have mercy upon him) reported: Those who used to recite the Qur’an to us from among the Prophet's Companions related to us that they would listen to ten verses from the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) and not move to the next ten verses until they learned the knowledge and application contained therein. They said: So, we learned knowledge and application.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me: "Recite to me
‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me: "Recite to me". I said: O Messenger of Allah, shall I recite to you while it has been revealed to you? He replied: "Yes." So I recited Surat an-Nisā’ until I reached this verse: {How will it be when We bring a witness from every community, and bring you [O Prophet] as a witness against these [people]?} [Surat an-Nisā’: 41] He said: "Enough for now." As I looked at him, I saw that his eyes were shedding tears.
He stood such that the Ka‘bah was on his left and Mina was on his right then he said: This is the standing place of the one to whom Sūrat al-Baqarah was revealed
‘Abdur-Rahmān ibn Yazīd An-Nakha‘i reported that he made Hajj with Ibn Mas‘ūd and he saw him stoning Jamrat al-‘Aqabah with seven stones; he stood such that the Ka‘bah was on his left and Mina was on his right then he said: "This is the standing place of the one to whom Sūrat al-Baqarah was revealed."
The example of the companion of the Qur’an is like the owner of tied camels. If he keeps them tied, he will hold them; but if he releases them, they will run away
Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of the companion of the Qur’an is like the owner of tied camels. If he keeps them tied, he will hold them; but if he releases them, they will run away."
It was mentioned in the letter that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent to ‘Amr ibn Hazm that no one should touch the Qur'an unless he is pure
‘Abdullāh ibn Abi Bakr ibn Hazm reported that it was mentioned in a letter that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) sent to ‘Amr ibn Hazm that: "No one should touch the Qur'an unless he is pure."
Ibn ‘Abbās and Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah were asked: Did the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) leave anything? They said: He did not leave anything except what is between the two bindings
‘Abd al-‘Azīz ibn Rufay‘ reported: Shaddād ibn Ma‘qil and I entered upon Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him). Shaddād ibn Ma‘qil asked him: "Did the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) leave anything (besides the Qur’an)?" They said: "He did not leave anything except what is between the two bindings (of the Qur’an)." Then we visited Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah and asked him (the same question). He replied: "The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) did not leave except what is between the bindings (of the Qur’an)."
‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: Do you have any of the revelation, other than what is in Allah's Book? He said: No, by Him Who grows the grain and originates the soul, I have nothing other than the understanding of the Qur'an, which Allah bestows upon some people, and what is written in this sheet
Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I asked ‘Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Do you have any of the revelation, other than what is in Allah's Book?" He said: "No, by Him Who grows the grain and originates the soul, I have nothing other than the understanding of the Qur'an, which Allah bestows upon some people, and what is written on this sheet." I asked: "What is written on that sheet?" He replied: "(Injunctions on) blood money, the freeing of captives, and that a Muslim should not be killed for a disbeliever."
We were with the Prophet (ﷺ) while we were young men close to maturity. We learned Imān (faith) before we learned the Qur’an; then we learned the Qur’an, and it increased us in faith

كان نبيُّ الله -صلَّى الله عليه وسلم- يُحدِّثنا عن بني إسرائيلَ حتى يُصبحَ
عن عبد الله بن عمرو قال: كان نبيُّ الله -صلَّى الله عليه وسلم- يُحدِّثنا عن بني إسرائيلَ حتى يُصبحَ، ما يقومُ إلا إلى عُظمِ صلاة.
استقرئوا القرآن من أربعة
عن مسروق، قال: ذكر عبد الله عند عبد الله بن عمرو فقال: ذاك رجل لا أزال أحبه، بعد ما سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: «استقرؤوا القرآن من أربعة، من عبد الله بن مسعود فبدأ به، وسالم، مولى أبي حذيفة، وأبي بن كعب، ومعاذ بن جبل»، قال: لا أدري بدأ بأبي، أو بمعاذ بن جبل.
لا يَتَوَسَّدُ القرآنَ
عن السائب بن يزيد، أن شريحا الحضرمي ذكر عند رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «لا يَتَوَسَّدُ القرآنَ».
الحمد لله الذي جعل في أمتي مثل هذا
عن عائشة زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قالت: أبطأتُ على عهد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ليلة بعد العشاء، ثم جئت، فقال: "أين كنتِ؟" قلت: كنت أسمع قراءة رجل من أصحابك لم أسمع مثل قراءته وصوته من أحد، قالت: فقام وقمت معه حتى استمع له، ثم التفت إلي، فقال: "هذا سالم مولى أبي حذيفة، الحمد لله الذي جعل في أمتي مثل هذا".

يا أُبَيّ، أُمرتُ أن أقرأ عليك سورة كذا وكذا
عن عبد الرحمن بن أبزى عن أُبيّ بن كعب قال: قال لي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "يا أُبَيّ، أُمرتُ أن أقرأ عليك سورة كذا وكذا" قال: قلت: يا رسول الله، وقد ذُكِرتُ هناك؟ قال: "نعم". قال: فقلت له: يا أبا المنذر، ففرحتَ بذلك؟ قال: وما يمنعني والله يقول: (قل بفضل الله وبرحمته فبذلك فلتفرحوا هو خير مما تجمعون)؟ قال مؤمل: قلت لسفيان: هذه القراءة في الحديث؟ قال: "نعم".
يا عمرو، صليتَ بأصحابك وأنت جنب؟
عن عمرو بن العاص، قال: احتلمت في ليلة باردة في غزوة ذات السَّلاسل، فأشفقتُ أن اغتسل فأهْلِكَ، فتيممتُ ثم صليتُ بأصحابي الصبح، فذكروا ذلك للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: "يا عمرو، صليتَ بأصحابك وأنت جنب؟" فأخبرته بالذي منعني من الاغتسال، وقلت: إني سمعت الله يقول: {ولا تقتلوا أنفسكم إن الله كان بكم رحيمًا} [النساء: 29]، فضحك رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ولم يقل شيئَا.
قرأ النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فيما أُمر وسكت فيما أُمر
عن ابن عباس قال: قرأ النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فيما أُمر وسكت فيما أُمر، {وما كان ربك نسيا} [مريم: 64] {لقد كان لكم في رسول الله أسوة حسنة} [الأحزاب: 21].
يَسِّرا ولا تُعسِّرا، وبَشِّرا ولا تُنفِّرا
عن أبي بُرْدةَ قال: بعث رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أبا موسى ومعاذ بن جبل إلى اليمن، قال: وبعث كل واحد منهما على مِخْلافٍ، قال: واليمنُ مخلافان، ثم قال: «يَسِّرا ولا تُعسِّرا، وبَشِّرا ولا تُنفِّرا»، -وفي رواية مسندة عن أبي موسى: «وتطاوعا ولا تختلفا»- فانطلق كل واحد منهما إلى عمله، وكان كلُّ واحدٍ منهما إذا سار في أرضه كان قريبًا من صاحبه أحدث به عهدًا، فسلم عليه، فسار معاذ في أرضه قريبًا من صاحبه أبي موسى، فجاء يسير على بغلته حتى انتهى إليه، وإذا هو جالسٌ وقد اجتمع إليه الناس، وإذا رجلٌ عنده قد جمعت يداه إلى عنقه، فقال له معاذ: يا عبد الله بن قيس، أَيْمَ هذا؟ قال: هذا رجلٌ كَفَرَ بعد إسلامه، قال: لا أنزل حتى يقتل، قال: إنما جيء به لذلك فانزل، قال: ما أنزل حتى يقتل، فأمر به فقتل، ثم نزل فقال: يا عبد الله، كيف تقرأ القرآن؟ قال: أَتَفَوَّقُه تفوُّقًا، قال: فكيف تقرأ أنت يا معاذ؟ قال: أنام أول الليل، فأقوم وقد قضيت جزئي من النوم، فأقرأ ما كتب الله لي، فأحتسب نومتي كما أحتسب قومتي.
أول مَن قدم علينا مصعب بن عمير وابن أم مكتوم
عَنِ البَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: أَوَّلُ مَنْ قَدِمَ عَلَيْنَا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ وَابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ، وَكَانَا يُقْرِئَانِ النَّاسَ، فَقَدِمَ بِلاَلٌ وَسَعْدٌ وَعَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ، ثُمَّ قَدِمَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الخَطَّابِ فِي عِشْرِينَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَمَا رَأَيْتُ أَهْلَ المَدِينَةِ فَرِحُوا بِشَيْءٍ فَرَحَهُمْ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، حَتَّى جَعَلَ الإِمَاءُ يَقُلْنَ: قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَمَا قَدِمَ حَتَّى قَرَأْتُ: سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى فِي سُوَرٍ مِنَ المُفَصَّلِ.
Recite the Qur’an as long as your hearts are harmonious, but if you diverge, then move away from it
Jundub ibn ‘Abdullāh (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite the Qur’an as long as your hearts are harmonious, but if you diverge, then move away from it."
I fear two things for my Ummah: the Qur’an and milk. As for milk, they seek the countryside, follow desires, and neglect the prayers. As for the Qur’an, the hypocrites learn it to argue with the believers by means of it
‘Uqbah ibn ‘Āmir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I fear two things for my Ummah: the Qur’an and milk. As for milk, they seek the countryside, follow desires, and neglect the prayers. As for the Qur’an, the hypocrites learn it to argue with the believers by means of it."
أنزل القرآن على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فتلا عليهم زمانًا
عن سعد بن أبي وقاص قال: «أُنزل القرآنُ على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فتلا عليهم زمانًا، فقالوا: يا رسول الله لو قصصت علينا، فأنزل الله: {الر تلك آيات الكتاب المبين} [يوسف: 1] إلى قوله: {نحن نقص عليك أحسن القصص} [يوسف: 3] فتلاها عليهم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم زمانًا، فقالوا: يا رسول الله لو حدثتنا، فأنزل الله: {الله نزل أحسن الحديث كتابًا متشابهًا} [الزمر: 23] الآية، كل ذلك يؤمرون بالقرآن» قال خلاد: وزاد فيه غيره قالوا: يا رسول الله ذكرنا، فأنزل الله {ألم يأن للذين آمنوا أن تخشع قلوبهم لذكر الله} [الحديد: 16].
كلاكما مُحسنٌ مُجمِلٌ
عن أبي بن كعب، قال: قرأت آية، وقرأ ابن مسعود خلافها، فأتيت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقلت: ألم تقرئني آية كذا وكذا؟ قال: "بلى " فقال ابن مسعود: ألم تقرئنيها كذا وكذا؟ فقال: "بلى، كلاكما مُحسنٌ مُجمِلٌ" قال: فقلت له، فضرب صدري، فقال: "يا أبي بن كعب، إني أقرئت القرآن، فقلت: على حرفين، فقال: على حرفين، أو ثلاثة؟ فقال الملك الذي معي: على ثلاثة، فقلت: على ثلاثة، حتى بلغ سبعة أحرف، ليس منها إلا شاف كاف، إن قلت: غفورا رحيما، أو قلت: سميعا عليما، أو عليما سميعا فالله كذلك، ما لم تختم آية عذاب برحمة، أو آية رحمة بعذاب".
قرأت جُزءًا مِن القرآنِ
عن ابن الهاد، قال: سألني نافعُ بنُ جبير بن مطعم فقال لي: في كم تقرأ القرآن؟ فقلت: ما أُحزِّبه، فقال لي نافع: لا تقل: ما أُحزِّبه، فإن رسولَ الله -صلَّى الله عليه وسلم- قال: "قرأت جُزءًا مِن القرآنِ".
