• "Allah — there is no deity except Him": Allah alone deserves worship; nothing else is truly divine.
• "The Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence": a life with no end, and a full, active sustaining of everything that exists.
• "Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep": Allah is free of the lapses that affect created beings, His sustaining of all things never falters.
• "To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth": His ownership covers the entire creation; nothing else creates or owns it.
• "Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission": no one intercedes with Allah on their own initiative; all intercession is by His leave alone.
• "He knows what is before them and what will be after them": His knowledge encompasses the past and future states of creation.
• "They encompass not a thing of His knowledge except what He wills": creation's knowledge is limited to only what Allah chooses to reveal to it.
• "His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth": the vastness of the Kursi, itself lesser than the Throne (al-Arsh), points to the greatness of its Creator.
• "Their preservation tires Him not": sustaining the heavens and the earth places no burden or fatigue on Allah.
• "And He is the Most High, the Most Great": the verse closes with His absolute highness and complete greatness.

Its virtue after every obligatory prayer

It is narrated that reciting Ayatul Kursi after every obligatory prayer is among the causes for entering Paradise, as in the hadith of Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him):

Its virtue before sleep is established in the story of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), whom the Prophet (peace be upon him) put in charge of guarding the zakat of Ramadan. A thief came three nights running, and on the last night told him that whoever recites Ayatul Kursi at bedtime keeps a protector from Allah with him and no devil comes near him until morning. When Abu Hurayrah reported this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
