The creation of each one of you is brought together in his mother's womb for forty days
Abu ‘Abdur-Rahmān ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ūd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) related to us, and he is the truthful and the trusted one; he said: "The creation of each one of you is brought together in his mother's womb for forty days. Then, he becomes a clinging clot for a similar period, then a lump (of flesh) for a similar period. Then, the angel is sent to him, who breathes life into him and is commanded to write down four things: his provision, lifespan, deeds, and whether miserable or happy. By the One other than Whom there is no god, one of you would do the deeds of the people of Paradise until he is only an arm's length away from it, but the predestination overtakes him, causing him to do the deed of the people of Hellfire, and he enters it; and one of you would do the deeds of the people of Hellfire until he is only an arm's length away from it, but the predestination overtakes him, causing him to do the deed of the people of Paradise, and he enters it."
Hey boy, I shall teach you some words: Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him at your side. If you ask, ask Allah; if you seek help, seek help from Allah
Abu al-‘Abbās, ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported: I was riding behind the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) one day and he said: "Hey boy, I shall teach you some words: Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him at your side. If you ask, ask Allah; if you seek help, seek help from Allah. And know that if the whole people gathered to benefit you with something, they would not benefit you except with what Allah has decreed for you, and if they gathered to harm you with something, they would not harm you except with what Allah has decreed against you. The pens have been lifted, and the scrolls have dried." In another version by other than At-Tirmidhi, it reads: "Be mindful of Allah, you will find Him before you. Recognize Allah at the time of prosperity, and He will recognize you at the time of adversity. And know that what had missed you was not going to befall you, and what had befallen you was not going to miss you. And know that victory comes with patience, relief comes with distress, and ease comes with hardship."
The greater the tribulation, the greater the reward. When Allah loves people, He tests them. So whoever who is content, for him is content; and whoever is discontent, for him is discontent

Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: One day, I was riding behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he said: "O boy, I shall teach you some words: Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him before you. If you ask, ask Allah; if you seek help, seek help from Allah. And know that if the Ummah were to gather together to benefit you with anything, they would not benefit you except with what Allah had already prescribed for you. And if they were to gather together to harm you with anything, they would not harm you except with what Allah had already prescribed against you. The pens have been lifted, and the scrolls have dried."

Adhere to whatever brings you benefit, seek the help of Allah, and do not feel helpless. If something befalls you, do not say: 'Had I done such-and-such, it would have been such-and-such;' rather, say: 'Allah has decreed, and whatever He wills, He does.' Indeed, 'if' opens the way before the devil to act."

Ibn Ad-Daylami reported: 'I went to Ubayy ibn Ka‘b and said: "There is something in my heart about predestination, so tell me something in the hope that Allah will remove it from my heart." If you die on other than this, you will be among the people of Hellfire." He added: "Then, I went to ‘Abdullāh ibn Mas‘ūd, Hudhayfah ibn al-Yamān, and Zayd ibn Thābit, and each of them told me the same thing on the authority of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him).''

Then, there is sent to him the angel who is commanded to write down four things: his sustenance, lifespan, actions, and whether miserable or happy. Then, he breathes life into him. One of you would do the actions of the people of Paradise until there is an arm's length between him and Paradise, but the predestination overtakes him, causing him to do actions of the people of Hellfire, and he enters it; and one of you would do the actions of the people of Hellfire until he is an arm's length away from Hellfire, but the predestination overtakes him, causing him to do deeds of the people of Paradise, and he enters it."

Adam said to him: "O Mūsa, Allah favored you with His talk (talked to you directly) and He wrote (the Torah) for you with His Own Hand. Do you blame me for an action which Allah had decreed on me forty years before He created me?" So Adam confuted Mūsa, Adam confuted Mūsa
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Adam and Mūsa debated with each other. Adam saw one of them whose ray between his eyes amazed him, so he said: 'O Lord, who is this?' He said: 'This is a man from the latter generations of your offspring called Dawūd.' He said: 'O Lord, how long did You make his lifespan?' He said: 'Sixty years.' He said: 'O Lord, add forty years from my life to his.' At the end of Adam's life, when the angel of death came to him, Adam said: 'Do I not have forty years remaining?' He said: 'Did you not give them to your son Dawūd?' He said: 'Adam denied, so his offspring denied; Adam forgot, so his offspring forgot; and Adam sinned, so his offspring sinned.'"

Indeed Allah, the Almighty, created His creation in darkness, then He cast His Light upon them, so whoever is touched by that light is guided, and whoever is not goes astray. It is for this reason that I say that the (ink of) the pen has dried upon the knowledge of Allah
