Naming the Newborn

A child is held in pledge for his ‘Aqīqah which should be slaughtered on his behalf on the seventh day after his birth, and he should be given a name, and his head should be shaved
Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A child is held in pledge for his ‘Aqīqah which should be slaughtered on his behalf on the seventh day after his birth, and he should be given a name, and his head should be shaved."
Yūsuf ibn ‘Abdullāh ibn Salām (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) named me Yūsuf and seated me on his lap
